On Paper & First Look: The Mercedes-Benz GLC 200, GLC 300 4MATIC, GLC 300 4MATIC Coupé And Mercedes me connect.

Just before the turn of the year (and decade), Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) unveiled the updated locally assembled Mercedes-Benz GLC range in 3 variants – the Mercedes-Benz GLC 200, GLC 300 4MATIC and GLC 300 4MATIC Coupé, alongside the introduction to Mercedes me connect.

In a snapshot, the refreshed Mercedes-Benz GLC variants sports a new engine, a number of subtle exterior styling tweaks, which includes reshaped bumpers, an altered grille, revised LED headlights and tail-lights, new design wheels, the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system as well as the MMC (Mercedes me connect). Prices starts from MYR 299,888 on the road before insurance.

All three variants gets the new M264 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine, but producing different power ratings. The Mercedes-Benz GLC 200 produces an output of 197 hp and 320 Nm of torque while both the Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 4MATIC and the Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 4MATIC Coupé produces 258 hp and 370 Nm of torque. All 3 variants gets the nine-stage 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission. The century sprint times for the GLC 200, GLC 300 4MATIC and GLC 300 4MATIC Coupé stands at 7.8 seconds, 6.2 seconds and 6.3 seconds respectively. The GLC 200 tops at 217 km/h while both the GLC 300 4MATIC and GLC 300 4MATIC Coupé tops at 240 km/h. 

Exterior wise, the updated GLC range looks sharper overall thanks to the redesigned LED high performance headlamps and the heavily contoured grille. Also redesigned for the added aggressive styling, are the front and rear bumpers. On the Mercedes-Benz GLC 200, distinctive details such as chrome elements running from the front to the rear were added and enhancing these details are the 20-inch 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels. 

The GLC 300 4MATIC and the GLC 300 4MATIC Coupé are similar in terms of its exterior add-ons. Both are equipped with the Night Package based on the AMG Line exterior, which features striking black design elements further bringing out the sporty and expressive character while enhancing the high-quality details of the exterior. The GLC 300 4MATIC SUV and Coupé are further fitted with the MULTIBEAM LED headlamps which corresponds to traffic situations with individually controlled LED’s. While the GLC 300 4MATIC gets a panoramic sliding sunroof, the GLC 300 4MATIC Coupé gets only a sliding sunroof. Both variants are fitted with 20-inch AMG 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels. 

One of the differentiating aspect of the updated GLC variants is the suspension set up. The GLC 200 gets a suspension with higher ground clearance, while the GLC 300 4MATIC gets AGILITY CONTROL suspension with selective damping system. On the sportier GLC 300 4MATIC Coupé, the suspension system employed consist of sports suspensions to deliver a firmer set-up on damping characteristics.

The interior of the GLC variants remain largely unchanged. The GLC 200 is furnished with the Exclusive Line fittings which notably includes the new leather sports steering wheel, ARTICO man-made leather upholstery, electrically adjustable front seats with memory function, lumbar support and THERMATIC automatic climate control amongst the other standard fittings.  

Both the GLC 300 4MATIC and GLC 300 4MATIC Coupé are decked out in AMG Line interior. Common items found on both vehicles are such as the AMG floor mats, AMG super-sport steering wheel in nappa leather, electrically adjustable front seats with memory function, paddle shifters, Illuminated door sill panels with “Mercedes-Benz” lettering, roller sunblinds in the left and right rear doors and THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control. Additional for the GLC 300 4MATIC Coupé is the leather upholstery versus the ARTICO man-made leather upholstery of the GLC 300 4MATIC and the 4-way-lumbar support for the Coupé versus the normal lumbar support for the GLC 300 4MATIC. 

All 3 variants gets the noteworthy fully digital 12.3-inch instrument cluster and the touch operated 10.25-inch media display. The new Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system is included in all 3 variants, and it further features LTE connectivity in enabling the Mercedes me connect services.

The GLC 200 is priced at MYR 299,888 on the road before insurance, while the GLC 300 4MATIC is currently estimated to be MYR 350,000 on the road before insurance. The GLC 300 4MATIC Coupé is priced at MYR 419,888 on the road before insurance. All 3 variants includes a four-year/unlimited mileage warranty. 

Mercedes me connect

Alongside the unveil of the updated Mercedes-Benz GLC range, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia also introduced the powerful new platform that allows Mercedes-Benz owners to remain connected to their vehicles – which is the Mercedes me connect.

The Mercedes me connect service is made to make the lives of Mercedes-Benz owners easier and at ease, whether it is to start the engine to cool the interior of the car, getting customer support or simply just obtaining the current status of the car. The service will be made available from 2020 onwards, and starting with the newly updated GLC range.

The Mercedes me connect services are either free for a lifetime (as long as the vehicle’s technology is supported) or limited to a three-year subscription, with the purchase of new (subjected to the production period of the vehicle) Mercedes-Benz vehicles.

The Mercedes me connect service is also available to customers with Mercedes-Benz vehicles manufactured after 2002, and this is made possible through the Mercedes me Adapter – which is a retrofit telematics solution consisting of an adapter, an application and integration into the central Mercedes-Benz systems. 

It is said that customers and owners can benefit from the following services amongst others:

          • –     Information about the current vehicle status such as fuel level, mileage, parking location and time;
          • –     Find parking garages with prices, opening times and occupancy;
          • –     “Cockpit” – Mode with live vehicle data, e.g. engine load, oil temperature and average speed;
          • –     “Car Health Monitor” for a fast support in case of warning lights from the vehicle;
          • –     Trip list and refueling list with export and editing function
          • –     Find, contact and book appointments with Mercedes-Benz Service Partners
          • –     Reminder function for important due dates such as main inspection


The Mercedes me Adapter will be available from Quarter 1, 2020 onwards at a price of MYR 250.
