Porsche 911 Sally Special: a one-of-a-kind Carrera to be auctioned for a greater cause.

It’s often that we see cartoon characters come to life in forms of toy figurines, mascots, or even cosplay. But it’s not everyday that an animated TV persona is manifested as a real world, functional vehicle that serves as a memento of a beloved movie franchise that we all know and love, Cars.

The story conveys values of friendship, love and mutual support. And at the heart of it all, lives Sally Carrera. She made her first appearance on the big screens in Pixar’s very first ‘Cars’ hit film in 2006. Known for her wit, intelligence and determination, this charming aqua-eyed, blue 2002 Porsche 911 Carrera stole the hearts of her audiences and successfully associated a sense of amiability to the German automobile manufacturer.

Pixar impressively brought to life not just a face, but a soul to the vehicles featured in the franchise. And this time round, the animation studio collaborates with Porsche to transfer the spirit of Sally off-screen, into a one-off 911 Sally Special that will be auctioned by RM Sotheby’s during the Monterey Car Week in California on Saturday, 20 August 2022. The auction proceeds will be donated in kind to two charities. A portion allocated to benefit young women via Girls Inc, and the second portion to the UNHCR in USA, an organisation that supports refugees from Ukraine.

The 911 Sally Special is a 480-PS 911 Carrera GTS that closely resembles the appearance of the sweetheart in blue, carrying forward the mechanical specification of the previous generation to feature a 3.0 litre bitturbo flat-six capable of delivering 480 PS in horsepower and 570 Nm in torque via a manual gearbox that truly depicts Sally Carrera’s passion for driving on the open roads.

Daniela Milošević, the interior designer who led the team that worked with Pixar in designing the custom blue as well as the model’s interior, meticulously constructed obvious highlights and subtle details that properly resonate with the essence of the Pixar darling. The team developed a special Pepita houndstooth fabric upholstery in three colours, paired with the chalk-coloured leather strap stitched with Speed Blue threads to accentuate the sporty design, which can also be easily swapped out to an alternative strap in Speed Blue complemented with chalk-coloured stitching without the need for any tools.

Just as Sally herself, the Turbo-look rims were reinterpreted by Style Porsche designers and manufactured especially for the 911 Sally Special. The ‘five-arm design’ rim was adapted to the 20-/21 inch wheel dimensions of the current 911 generation to create a visual link to the 911 type 996 on which Sally Carrera is based.

As added value, the auction notably spotlights a unique chronograph by Porsche Design, created in close collaboration with Pixar, precisionly engineered at the German manufacturer’s own prestigious watchmaking facility in Solothurn, Switzerland. This one-of-a-kind timepiece is powered by a COSC-certified Porsche Design WERK 0.1 . 100 movement, topped-off with a limited edition marking on the back of the case.

The auction will also feature a special indoor car cover from Porsche Tequipment, a wheel rack with an additional set of the Carrera’s Exclusive Design wheels, a book that recites the journey of the makings of the 911 Sally Special and original drawings by designers Shuichi Yamashita and Bob Pauley.

All in all, the 911 Sally Special is a manifestation of the designers and team’s effort from both sides in making a dream come true for fans of the franchise. In light of creating a design that truly represents the psyche of Sally Carrera, the team reasserts that practicality and usability was at the forefront of the development process. The Sally Special was made to be driven often as she is one with the paved havens after all.
