Sat at the intersection of London’s bustling financial district and the urban Georgian charm of Shoreditch is the One Crown Place, a striking mixed-use development that stands tall in the heart of one of the city’s most lively neighborhoods. Developed by MTD Group, the highrise perfectly complements its vibrant surroundings, serving as a microcosm of South Shoreditch’s contrasting mix of old heritage buildings and dashing modern architecture.

The site had initially been left semi-derelict for many years until MTD Group’s wider development came along to breathe new life into the area. The project was designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates (KPF), where they were inspired to create a dynamic and responsive composition that brings together old and new seamlessly. KPF envisioned a city block that had evolved over time, resulting in a unified architectural expression that is contemporarily nostalgic.

One Crown Place comprises two stunning prismatic towers of up to 28 and 33 storeys respectively, offering breathtaking panoramic views of London’s skyline. The towers are home to 246 private apartments, each designed to accommodate elegant and flexible living/entertainment spaces. On the inside, the Italian-made Arclinea kitchens highlight top-quality materials from around the world, and the bathrooms adopt a mix of cool white tiling and warm hues of contrasting accents and fittings to further add a depth of elegance to its entirety. The bedrooms in turn feature bespoke fittings such as B&B Italia wardrobes. The Sophie Ashby Collection, launched in October 2022, includes eleven premium apartments with their own unique personalities.

In terms of communal space, the towers offer a fitness suite, health and beauty treatment room, private residents’ lounge, and a work hub catered for remote work. The lower six stories of the development consist of office spaces totaling 109,675 sq ft, with a dedicated office reception by Design Haus Liberty. The retail units will offer leisure or other amenities, elevating the spirit of the site to become a 24/7 destination for all.

Another prominent feature of the project is the fully restored Georgian terrace. MTD Group retained this trait in an effort to transfuse its cultural essence into the brand-new 5-star hotel with 41 bedrooms, 114-cover restaurants, bars and club lounges. The Sun Street Hotel, as it’s named, has been restored and now occupies a row of six Georgian houses originally designed by the renowned architect George Dance the Younger in the 1800s.

Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, the development reached its practical completion in May 2021, ahead of its initial delivery goal. This achievement is a testament to the unwavering commitment and expertise of the team at MTD Group. One Crown Place was selected as the winner in the Best Luxury Mixed-Use Development category at the 2023 Luxury Lifestyle Awards for its innovative design, sustainable features, and seamless integration of historical and contemporary elements.
