As has often been said, truly great design is about optimizing any given form for its intended purpose; the art of trimming away anything frivolous until what remains emerges as beauty defined by the pure essence of that given object. Even the design credo of Ferdinand Alexander Porsche (F. A.) says thus, as he once remarked, “When you consider the function of an object, the form usually emerges by itself.” His uncompromisingly disciplined vision of reduction to the essentials had already been implemented when he designed the legendary 911; before founding the Porsche Design studio in 1972 together with his brother Hans-Peter. His creations there quickly became contemporary design classics in their own right, including the Chronograph I wristwatch and P’8478 sunglasses with their interchangeable lenses.
The 11th of December this year would have marked F. A. Porsche’s historic 90th birthday. As a befitting celebration of this occasion, his youngest son Mark Porsche has collaborated with Sonderwunsch’s experts to craft a special commemorative model in the form of this 911 GT3 90 F. A. Porsche. Inspired by a G-Series 911 that F.A. himself drove back in the 1980s, one example of the 90-car limited production run will go to Mark himself, with the remaining 89 available for worldwide customers to purchase. To be made available for order from April 2026 onwards, each one will include an exclusive special edition of the legendary Chronograph 1 & a special Porsche Design weekender bag. Production is targeted to begin in 2026’s second half, after individual buyer configurations have been completed and finalized. The 911 GT3 Touring forms the mechanical basis for this collector’s special, as a more evolution of the iconic road-going GT3 with an extendable rear spoiler. As usual, its 4.0-litre naturally aspirated boxer-6 engine produces 510 PS and 450 Nm of torque.
Mark Porsche commented, “I’m sure that my father would have loved this very special 911. Through many details, we have incorporated my father’s personal preferences into this exciting project. The F. A. Greenmetallic paint created especially for this model is reminiscent of the Oakgreenmetallic of his 911. The F. A. Grid-Weave fabric used for the seat centres echoes the pattern of his favourite jacket.”
Indeed the anniversary model’s shade of F. A. Greenmetallic was created by Paint to Sample Plus experts together with the Porsche family itself. Not otherwise available for the GT3 Touring, its Sport Classic wheels painted in satin-gloss black are another exclusive exterior feature; inspired by the classic Fuchs wheels, their historic 1963 wheel hub cover crests are another notable highlight. On top of that, a galvanized gold-plated ‘90 F. A. Porsche’ logo badge sits proudly astride its boot lid grille.
Moving inside, a special ambiance steeped in F. A. Porsche’s inimitable design heritage is created by the Truffle Brown Club Leather upholstery, Chalk Beige decorative stitching & seat centre panels featuring a special F. A. Grid-Weave fabric. Inspired by his favourite jackets, it also appears in the glove box, board briefcase, and on the luggage compartment’s reversible mat. Five colours are featured in the fabric’s pattern with Black, Green, Truffle Brown, Cream & Bordeaux Red yarns all woven together to create a striking effect.
Created as a one-off piece for F. A. Porsche, the original Chronograph I’s design also informs the Sport Chrono watch on top of the instrument panel. F. A. Porsche’s signature appears on an engraved plaque just below the open-pore walnut plywood gear knob, and also in another gold-plated dashboard trim plaque alongside the original 911’s silhouette & the words ‘One of 90’ to signify the 911 GT3 90 F. A.’s limited edition exclusivity.
Watch collectors will also find much to love here, as each buyer will even get an exclusive Chronograph 1 version. Its patinated effect is created by a special Super-LumiNova luminous material applied to the hands and indices, inspired by the appearance of aged radium or tritium. Historic Porsche Design logos on its bracelet clasp & crown enhance the timepiece’s uniquely vintage character; while F. A. Porsche’s initials also appear above the 3 o’clock day and date display in lieu of the Porsche Design logo, just like the man’s personal chronograph itself now owned by his descendants. A limited-edition number (XX/90) along with F. A. Porsche’s signature are laser-engraved onto its case back, while even its automatic movement’s rotor reflects the colour & shape of its wheels themselves.
Made from more durable and even lighter hypoallergenic titanium, the watch’s case still comes coated in black to mirror its historic 1972 predecessor which was in fact the world’s first black wristwatch, quickly finding its place as a design classic while symbolizing F. A. Porsche’s functional design principles. Buyers who wish to sport an alternate look at times can also wear the timepiece on an included leather strap, with the quick-change system enabling both straps to be easily swapped without needing extra tools. The second strap’s leather and decorative stitching thread will even match the materials used in each car’s interior as configured by its buyer.
That’s not all – a special weekender travel bag is also included as part of this exclusive package, generously crafted using the same Truffle Brown leather as the vehicle’s interior with Chalk Beige decorative stitching. The same F. A. Grid-Weave fabric as the seat centre panels is used for its front pocket’s lining, with high-quality microfibre lining the main compartment. As the ideal finishing touch, an anniversary logo badge is embroidered to the bag’s outer pocket to match the car’s boot lid grille badge itself.
