After rocking cities from Paris to Dubai, the iconic hotel brand, Mama Shelter, has finally landed in Asia, bringing its unique blend of irreverent fun, cheeky design and serious hospitality to the heart of the Lion City. The doors to Mama Shelter Singapore opened on September 23rd, promising to shake up the local hotel scene.

Mama Shelter is More Than Just a Place to Sleep

Mama Shelter isn’t your typical hotel. Instead of a sterile lobby and a quiet room, you’re greeted with a vibrant, pulsating social hub. The brand’s philosophy is simple: the restaurant is the main event, and the room is just a bonus. From the moment you step inside, you’re immersed in a “cinematic swirl of design, music and movement.” The open-plan lobby and ground-floor Mama Restaurant and Island Bar buzz with energy, inviting both guests and locals to eat, drink and be merry. You’ll find everything from arcade games and board games to a raised stage and DJ booth, setting the scene for regular live performances. It’s all part of Mama’s recipe for happiness!

A Feast for the Senses

Mama Shelter Restaurant

Dining is at the core of the Mama Shelter experience. The ground-floor restaurant serves up delicious, homemade, brasserie-style cuisine crafted by Executive Chef Eugene Chan. Think comforting, generous dishes that feel like a warm hug. For a more elevated experience, head up to the rooftop, where you can sip refreshing cocktails and kick back by one of the two pools. The rooftop restaurant, a cool, covered area, serves up tasty Mediterranean-inspired dishes and delicious pizzas pulled straight from the oven.

Quirky Design with a Local Twist

The hotel’s design, a collaboration with long-time partners Dion & Arles, is a joyful riot of colour, pattern and texture. It’s a fun fusion of Mama’s playful roots and Singapore’s rich cultural language. You’ll spot touches of Peranakan influence, with wedding-dress-inspired carpets and vibrant mosaic tiles. The lifts themselves are a mood, lined with patterned upholstery and moody lighting. But the real showstopper? A monumental, hand-painted ceiling mural by Parisian street artist Beniloys, which took three months to create and features peacocks, dragons and tigers.

Rooms That Feel Like a Hug at Mama Shelter

Rooms at the new hotel in Singapore

After a day of exploring the city’s vibrant streets, the 115 rooms offer a cosy, welcoming nest. True to Mama’s signature style, they don’t skimp on comfort. Every room comes with 5-star bedding, organic toiletries and hi-tech entertainment systems for films on demand. In a brand-first, nearly half of the rooms have a private terrace, a perfect little sanctuary. And for families or groups, the hotel debuts its very first bunk bedrooms.

So, if you’re looking for a new spot that’s not just a hotel, but a destination in itself – a place to live, dine, dance and connect – then Mama Shelter is calling your name.
