Andy Warhol was a man of icon. He was simply a powerhouse — a genuine leading light who steered the entire Pop Art movement in the 1950s and 1960s. An American artist who effortlessly spanned painting, film, and photography (among others), he was the definition of cultural influence.

The Andy Warhol Watch

Like many brilliant creatives, Warhol possessed a wonderfully eccentric streak. And like many eccentrics, Andy Warhol sure loved collecting. His passions ranged from the utterly trivial, like everyday items, right through to the truly exquisite, most notably watches. In his lifetime, he amassed a collection of over 300 timepieces — a treasure trove of horological brilliance.

Of those hundreds of spectacular watches, seven were from Piaget. As a brand, Piaget has a long, beautiful history of introducing spectacular watch and jewellery collections inspired by the creative arts, drawing in a discerning clientele from the art world. So, it comes to no surprise that a man like Andy Warhol himself, with his taste for the arts, owned a few Piaget timepieces of his own.

The Black Tie Watch

The most recognisable Piaget he owned — a piece acquired in 1973 — was the one known for years as the 15102, or simply the Black Tie watch. It was a stunner, an incredibly gorgeous and sleek timepiece.

Fast forward to 2024, Piaget and the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts have collaborated and formally renamed this legendary watch, giving it the title it deserves: The Andy Warhol Watch.

A New Chapter: The ‘Collage’ Limited Edition

Now, in the recent year, this collaboration has given birth to a spectacular new creation. It’s a gorgeous reimagining of The Andy Warhol Watch, directly inspired by one of the artist’s most celebrated works: a vibrant polaroid collage self-portrait.

Aptly named The Andy Warhol Watch ‘Collage’ Limited Edition, this piece is destined to be a serious collectible, with only 50 pieces being made.

The designers took a wonderfully colourful approach here. The first thing that catches the eye is the dial motif, which is a masterclass in the ancient Métier d’Art of marquetry. It features four perfectly shaped, cut, and arranged ornamental stones.

The foundation of the dial is a sleek black onyx, which cleverly pays homage to the colour of Andy Warhol’s original 1973 watch. On top of this, thin slices of colourful ornamental stones are added: sunny yellow Namibian serpentine, delicate pink opal, and verdant green chrysoprase. The result is a vibrant, sophisticated mosaic that captures the spirit of Pop Art brilliance.

Craftsmanship That Thrills

The watch features a striking stepped 45mm case crafted from luxurious 18-carat yellow gold. It is paired with a rich, mature green leather strap — a perfect choice that complements the dazzling dial without overwhelming its artistry.

Inside this magnificent case beats the heart of the timepiece: Piaget’s own 501P1 self-winding mechanical calibre. This is a wonderfully slim movement boasting a 40-hour power reserve. Naturally, the calibre is exquisitely finished, featuring beautiful circular Côtes de Genève stripes.

But the final touch is what truly transforms this to a collectible masterpiece. The 18-carat yellow gold case back has a vertical satin finish and features an engraved rendition of the Andy Warhol self-portrait that inspired the dial design. This stunning engraving is completed with Piaget’s logo and Andy Warhol’s signature.

It’s a timepiece that perfectly marries the playful, artistic spirit of Pop Art with the meticulous, luxurious craftsmanship of Swiss haute horlogerie. For any collector of art or fine watches, this limited edition piece is simply a must-have.
