It is a masterpiece orchestrated by three award-winning international designers: Piet Boon from Studio Piet Boon for interior design; Franklin Po from Tierra Design for landscape architecture; and Alen Nikolovski from AEDAS for architecture. 

PIET BOON – INTERIOR DESIGNER

Founded in 1983 by high profile Dutch designer Piet Boon and joined in 1986 by creative director Karin Meyn, Studio Piet Boon is an award-winning international design company renowned for unique craftsmanship, vision and quality. The design philosophy for AIRA Residence was to harmoniously blend Western design with an Asian way of life whilst balancing functionality, aesthetics and individuality.

Our design brings together high-end luxury with clean lines and subtle contrasts in both colours and materials. Effortlessly combining both Western and East-Asian home functionalities was slightly challenging at times. Together with the expert local team, we managed to mold all functionalities and goals into unique and beautiful design solutions.

The first moment you enter the generous reception area of the building’s lobby, one is overwhelmed by the beauty of materials, graphic patterns and exceptional high-quality details that carry throughout the entire building. From garage, drop-off or main entry, an instant feeling of home is experienced.

We managed to create a private luxury home in a residential building. Owners have everything they need in beautifully arranged amenities that complement the condominiums, most of which boast a beautiful city skyline view. In addition, distinct design elements and features give AIRA Residence its unique identity, including attention to details within a variety of natural stone, stained oak and specially treated sanitary ware.

FRANKLIN PO – LANDSCAPE DESIGNER

Founder of Tierra Design, Franklin Po moved from California to Singapore in 1973 and has since elevated his firm to a position of industry leadership. Through his unwavering belief in the integration of landscape and architecture, as well as his intense commitment to advancing the standards and quality of life in Asia, Franklin has transformed the way clients perceive landscape architecture and therein enhanced regional standards of landscape design. Engaged by clients in Hong Kong, China, Thailand, Taiwan, India, Vietnam, Malaysia and Singapore, Tierra has won numerous awards, including the Singapore President ‘s Design Award 2015 and distinctions for its aesthetic excellence and ability to create environments that speak of harmony and balance. 

FRANKLIN PO ON AIRA RESIDENCE LANDSCAPING

AIRA Residence continues Tierra Design’s philosophy that emphasises the seamless integration of architecture and landscape. The entire landscape design is driven by a concept that calls for simplicity and tranquility – a ‘quiet sophistication’ that will make AIRA Residence the private sanctuary for its fortunate residents. 

Within AIRA Residence, we have crafted a series of usable, intimate gardenesque spaces, linked together in an orchestrated journey throughout the development. As the residents make their way from one area to another, the different landscape designs, though having a common material theme, are suited to their functional use – the porte-cochere, Tranquility Garden, The Green – the clubhouse grand lawn – the infinity edge pool and others.

The emphasis on one single design gesture that links all the spaces together, dictates that the gardens are not isolated from one another, but treated as different parts of a whole. Horizontal and vertical planes of water, low planting forms, specially selected trees and hardscape are juxtaposed with one another. 

These spaces and others throughout the development ‘give back’ to the residents of AIRA Residence. Our favourite features would be the spaces that would be used and enjoyed by the residents, perhaps even catering to their moods and fit for their individual purposes.

Their portfolio of world-class design solutions includes the award winning Le Architecture in Taipei and the world famous Olympia 66 in Dalian. 

 ALEN NIKOLOVSKI ON AIRA RESIDENCE ARCHITECTURE

Sited within the green and luscious location of the prestigious neighbourhood of Damansara Heights, AIRA Residence has been envisioned to provide the highest interpretation of urban condominium living in the ideal setting within Kuala Lumpur. The development aims to blur the boundary between indoor and outdoor living space, providing a luxurious yet comfortable lifestyle – a refuge from urban life.

The arrangement of the faceted towers follows the contour of the hill-top site allowing them to be placed upon a strong podium component which appears as a low plateau form raising from the hill. The design has been inspired by the tradition of hill-top township developments that appear to grow from the hill itself.

The towers are designed to offer magnificent views of Kuala Lumpur’s city skyline and its surrounding hills to the east and west. The site’s context has strongly influenced the built form, with the units arranged to maximise the open and expansive views and capture prevailing breezes for cross ventilation opportunities.

This residential design concept – melding the indoor/outdoor living space boundaries – provides large, full-width external balconies for each apartment. The internal living spaces can be opened up to the external balconies with full-height sliding glazed doors. 

The facade is also created as a climatic modifier, so that residents can enjoy the spectacular views whilst also controlling the impact of the wind, rain and sun.

We believe the design has successfully created an environment of the highest quality, offering a balance of spectacular views, adjustable environmental control and provisions for greenery upon extensive balcony areas that together provide the experience of intimacy and nature within an urban setting.
