Quick, everyone, panic! Godzilla has stomped its way into Kuala Lumpur! Time to grab your emergency rations, take shelter… or, if you’re an eccentric and can’t resist a good monster sighting, maybe sneak a peek at the giant, scaly troublemaker.

Jokes aside, while we thankfully don’t need to worry about a massive lizard flattening the city, our beloved film monster is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year! To mark this huge milestone, TOHO Corporation — the legendary studio that first brought Godzilla to life — released a commemorative video. And guess what? Malaysia’s own Kuala Lumpur skyline, complete with the unmistakable KLCC Twin Towers as well as the Equatorial Plaza, has made a surprise and epic cameo!

That little cameo was just the beginning! This brief yet meaningful appearance had quickly sparked a thrilling partnership between EQ (the hotel) and TOHO, and they certainly didn’t hold back on the fun. To commemorate this monster of a collaboration, EQ has rolled out some fantastic, limited-edition, “Happy 70th Anniversary” merchandise — including a bespoke T-shirt and collectible luggage stickers — all infused with that perfect blend of style and wild, destructive ‘Godzilla’ charm.

But the excitement doesn’t stop there. Head up to the hotel’s award-winning rooftop bar, Sky51, and you’ll find the bartenders mixing up a limited-time signature drink, perfectly named the “King of Monsters.” More than just the average cocktail, this drink certainly showcases the ‘Godzilla’ essence as it comes creatively crowned with a Godzilla-shaped jelly. So, with every sip, you get a playful reminder of the beloved beast — and hey, if you feel like exacting a tiny bit of revenge, you can drown the monster in your drink too! The drink is available in both alcoholic and non-alcoholic versions, making it perfect for everyone.

For one glorious evening, EQ went all out and threw the ultimate monster-sized bash to celebrate the King. They gathered everyone from TOHO executives to media members, but the real stars were the diehard Godzilla fans — all united by their genuine love (and slight terror) for the giant beast.

The event, held high up at Sky51, was wildly interesting, to say the least. Guests sipped on those signature “King of Monsters” drinks, munched on Godzilla-inspired snacks, and mingled, many of them decked out in the bespoke anniversary T-shirts. The crowning glory? A truly extensive collection of Godzilla figurines, putting every childhood toy stash to shame. It was a spectacular, scaled-up celebration for the 70-year-old monster!

We were absolutely delighted to see the world-famous monster romping through Kuala Lumpur and passing by EQ in TOHO Corporation's commemorative video. This unique cameo comes at a time when EQ has recently been in the news, being listed on the prestigious Travel + Leisure 2025 list of Top 100 Hotels in the World at #22. We are especially proud to note that EQ is the only property in Malaysia to have made that list, which includes some of the most distinguished hotels in the world. Along with this moment of pop culture, we decided to have some fun and create some souvenirs. Special thanks go out to TOHO Corporation and TOHO Entertainment Asia for allowing us to do so. We can’t wait to see what Godzilla’s next adventure might be.
