The year 2025 marks a monumental occasion: 68 years of Malaysia’s independence, of Merdeka. As patriotic Malaysians, it’s only natural to celebrate and embrace the joy of such a glorious day. From the grand spectacle of the Merdeka Parade on the 31st of August to the dazzling fireworks displays that light up the night sky, there are countless ways to commemorate this milestone. Yet, for many, the true Merdeka spirit lives on in smaller, more intimate gestures — like enjoying themed treats or drinks that honour the nation’s rich heritage.

This year, in celebration of both Merdeka and Malaysia Day, Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral is offering an exceptional way to keep that spirit high with a special menu of Malaysian-inspired drinks and also a delectable snack. This Malaysia-esque offering is available until the 30th of September 2025, so don’t forget to check it out!

A Merdeka Toast to the Nation

welcome merdeka and malaysia day with these mocktails at W XYZ Bar

For those who prefer their drinks alcohol-free, a visit to the W XYZ Bar is a must. Here, you’ll find their special Malaysia Mocktails menu, featuring three non-alcoholic concoctions that pay homage to classic Malaysian flavours. These drinks can be a little nostalgic trip for locals, as well as a delightful introduction for tourists keen to embrace the Malaysian culture.

Sip on the Teh Tarik Float, a creamy, dreamy blend of Teh Masjid and condensed milk, topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Or, if you prefer something with a little tang, the Asam Boi Spritz is a zesty mix of sour plum, lemon-lime soda, honey, and lime leaves. Finally, there’s the Honey Supreme, a refreshingly simple mix of honey, ginger ale, and orange juice. Each of these delightful mocktails is priced at RM25 nett per glass and is available daily from 9am to 12am — the perfect way to celebrate Merdeka!

A Little Booze, a Lot of Soul

malaysian-inspired cocktails for merdeka at Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral

If your taste buds are calling for something with a bit more kick, make your way to the Mai Bar for their Boozy-Lah! Cocktails. But of course, in the Merdeka spirit, these aren’t just any cocktails; they are bold, local interpretations of classic alcoholic beverages, each infused with a distinct Malaysian twist.

Try the Tiki Pandan, a pandan-infused rum drink blended with pineapple juice, coconut, and a hint of gula Melaka syrup. For something sweeter, the Harum Manis offers a blissful combination of mango purée, yuzu syrup, Jack Daniel’s, and cream. And for a truly unique experience, don’t miss the Cendol cocktail, a boozy reinterpretation of the beloved dessert, featuring milk, gula Melaka syrup, Baileys Irish Cream, white rum, and the iconic green cendol strands. At RM42 nett per glass, these cocktails are a fantastic way to celebrate Merdeka, available daily from 4pm to 12am.

The Perfect Pairing

While at Mai Bar, be sure to try out their special Malaysian-inspired snack: the Sambal di Gamberi Crostini. This spicy appetiser, priced at RM38 nett, is a brilliant fusion of Malaysian Sambal Udang served on an Italian crostini. The rich, fiery flavours of the sambal beautifully complement the crunchy bread, making it an excellent partner to any of the Boozy-Lah! Cocktails (in fact, it is recommended to pair the cocktails with these snacks!).
