Ah, the Planet Ocean. The sophisticated timepiece engineered to conquer the deep. It’s a watch that commands respect, an icon of diving watches. And can you believe it? It has been 20 whole years since the first generation the Planet Ocean was introduced.

To mark this significant 20th anniversary, OMEGA has decided to honour the collection by giving it a spectacular and complete overhaul. Say hello to the dazzling reveal of the 4th Generation! And what, after all, is the joy of a true revival if it doesn’t arrive looking utterly fresh and revolutionary? Which is exactly what the 4th Generation Planet Ocean is offering.

This latest edition comes with a stunning new aesthetic structure and noticeable changes to its profile. The launch features seven new Co-Axial Master Chronometer models, including those clad in the collection’s signature, unmissable orange colour.

Deep Roots in Ocean Exploration

The modern tale of the OMEGA Seamaster Planet Ocean collection began in 2005, but its spirit is rooted in a much grander heritage. OMEGA’s connection to the mysteries of the ocean is profound, reaching back to the 1932 Marine, widely celebrated as the world’s first watch made for civilian divers, and, of course, the legendary Seamaster 300 of the 1950s.

the OMEGA 1932 Marine

The very first Planet Ocean was consciously inspired by the Seamaster 300, keeping the essential, beating heart of the brand’s quintessential diving watch DNA alive. However, it immediately set a bold new standard with a remarkable 600m water resistance (that’s double the resistance of the Seamaster 300).

Over the years, the Planet Ocean has been a vehicle for constant innovation. We saw the introduction of Liquidmetal™ for the bezel in 2009, and the 3rd Generation in 2016 integrated the brand’s superior Co-Axial Master Chronometer movements for top-tier precision. Most recently, the 2022 Ultra Deep collection pushed the boundaries of watchmaking with a staggering 6,000m water resistance. Each step has made the Planet Ocean an ever-more remarkable pioneer.

The Latest Planet Ocean is Sleeker, Sharper, and Simply Chic

And now, we arrive at the glorious 4th Generation.

The core design philosophy this time is a “fitted” approach, embracing sharper, more angular surfaces that are stylishly inspired by OMEGA’s sleek Seamaster models from the 1980s and ’90s. This latest model expertly balances the classic Planet Ocean presence with a distinctly contemporary, high-fashion edge.

While the new watches retain the robust 42 mm diameter of the original, they are now wonderfully slimmer and flatter. The thickness has been dramatically reined in from 16.1 mm to a much more elegant 13.79 mm — a refinement you will certainly feel on the wrist.

This new generation Planet Ocean also features a dramatic two-part case structure incorporating an inner titanium ring for strength, a valuable lesson learned from the Ultra Deep. Notably, the helium escape valve has been removed after twenty years to perfectly suit the new, sharper aesthetic.

The bracelets are also refined, becoming slimmer and uniquely integrated into the case. They feature a new flat link design and OMEGA’s smart six-position adjustable clasp.

Luxury is in the Details

On the sophisticated matte black dials, the Arabic numerals are subtly updated to be open-work and squarer, perfectly mirroring the sharper lines of the case. Furthermore, a robust Grade 5 Titanium screw-in caseback replaces the old sapphire, reducing weight and thickness while enhancing strength.

Under the hood, all new models are powered by the impressive OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8912, ensuring 60 hours of reserve and adherence to the highest industry standards.

And finally, for the three orange models, OMEGA has perfected a vivid new orange ceramic for the bezel rings — mastering this notoriously difficult colour. The collection has launched with seven new models available in the three gorgeous colourways: Orange, Blue, and Black.

From its origins in 2005, drawing on the deepest parts of OMEGA’s diving heritage, the Planet Ocean has always balanced technical rigour with undeniable style. This superb 4th Generation carries that legacy forward, presenting a slimmer, sharper profile without ever compromising its pioneering DNA. Whether you prefer the vibrant new orange, the deep blue, or classic black, this refined collection proves that the future of luxury diving watches is unequivocally stylish.
