From a university classroom to a global design powerhouse, Melanie Perkins’ journey with Canva is nothing short of extraordinary. As a kite-boarding enthusiast teaching design programs, she recognised the need for a simpler, more accessible design tool. Her vision culminated in Canva, a free-to-use platform that has revolutionised graphic design. By prioritising ease of use, Canva has outpaced tech giants, empowering millions to create stunning visuals. Perkins’ story is a beacon of inspiration, showcasing how a single idea, coupled with unwavering determination, can transform an industry.

FERN Batik + Artisanal Collective

Fern Chua, the creative force behind FERN Batik + Artisanal Collective, has masterfully blended Malaysian heritage with contemporary design. Her luxury resortwear, crafted from natural materials by skilled artisans, reflects a deep connection to nature. Each of her eight collections is inspired by a different natural element, a testament to her travels and the beauty she finds in the world. “To experience and become a part of nature during my travel inspires every series I create,” says Chua. Beyond fashion, FERN has evolved into an artisanal collective, showcasing ethical bespoke goods from around the globe. This expansion reflects Chua’s commitment to supporting artisans and celebrating diverse craftsmanship.

Anna Vardanyan, the visionary behind VANNA, is rewriting the rules of watchmaking. Her brand, launched in 2020, is a celebration of female empowerment, being the only woman-owned design and manufactured watch brand. VANNA’s avant-garde designs, inspired by the cosmos, fuse jewellery and timepieces into exquisite works of art. “Femininity is not static – it’s ever-evolving, flourishing when it has the right foundation to authentically express itself,” states Vardanyan. Each VANNA watch, crafted from authentic gemstones and high-quality metals, is a testament to her passion and the collaborative spirit of her Swiss engineering team.

Schiaparelli

Elsa Schiaparelli, an Italian fashion designer, brought a surrealist touch to the Parisian fashion scene in the 1920s. Her bold designs, often inspired by artists like Salvador Dali and her signature “shocking pink” challenged conventions. Though the original maison closed in the 1950s, its revival is 2014 ensures Schiaparelli’s legacy of artistic and unconventional fashion continues to inspire.
