Even today, there are few brands indeed which can claim to have been around for an entire century. Leica Camera AG is one of them, and is marking this landmark milestone by celebrating the Leica 1’s 100th anniversary in 2025. In 1925, it was publicly unveiled at that year’s Leipzig Spring Fair as the world’s first mass-produced 35mm camera. With its usefully compact form, it exceeded all expectations & opened up entirely new photographic possibilities. Now, the company is globally celebrating this iconic camera and its revolutionary photographic heritage with the motto ‘100 Years of Leica: Witness to a Century’. A series of international events organized throughout this year by Leica’s country organisations in the capitals of Milan, Tokyo, New York, Dubai, and Shanghai will present suitably curated special edition product launches & cultural projects; before culminating in the Wetzlar headquarters’ anniversary week celebration in June. High-calibre exhibitions across the worldwide Leica Galleries network will also showcase these renowned cameras’ imaging capabilities via the works of outstanding photographers.

As part of the celebrations, Leica Malaysia has now proudly presented the limited edition Leica SOFORT 2 Sketch Flex Edition, an instant camera that merges photographic joy with boldly expressive design. A hybrid instant camera designed for spontaneously fun, stylish storytelling with the ability to instantly print captures or share them digitally, it enables responsive creativity for fast paced movers while preserving tactile memories.

Thus offering the best of both worlds, the Sketch Flex Edition now adds a boldly characterful twist bolstered with limited edition collectability. Only 100 of these cameras will ever be produced worldwide, 50 in red and 50 in white; making it a truly exclusive collectors’ piece for photography enthusiasts and design advocates alike.

That immediately striking design is the creative work of none other than proudly homegrown Malaysian artist Remus Chang, Motorsport Playground’s founder & creative director who has flipped the script on sometimes overdone perfection with a hand-drawn aesthetic style expressing the freedom of spontaneous individuality. Here, he seeks to capture instant photography’s raw, unfiltered spirit with a unique kind of unapologetically playful authenticity. Well known across our scene as “Supremus,” Remus has spent more than 2 decades transforming various rides from rugged off-roading trucks to the most desirable exotic supercars into rolling works of art. He utilizes artistic elements drawn from creative spheres as wide ranging as sneaker culture, streetwear, hip-hop music & skateboarding, then seamlessly blurs the lines between these inspirations and the automotive world; adding his own artistic twists to create utterly unique conceptions.

“Every project is a canvas for self-expression. Here, I wanted to do something more sketchy, more messy, more human with intention,” he said. Something most evocatively reflected in his very own Porsche 991.1 911 GT3 RS, stylishly wrapped to celebrate this occasion with the same artistically inspired, bold freehand marker style strokes which echo the freedom of a designer’s early concept ideation sketches. Imperfect yet powerful, it is these bold lines that give the SOFORT 2 Sketch Flex edition their uniquely impactful style.

His Kuala Lumpur-based institution Motorsport Playground was founded in 2008, and has grown into a globally recognized hub where luxurious speed seamlessly meets cutting-edge design identities. Having earned an internationally discerned reputation as one of Asia’s premier wrap studios, it is now recognized for its boldly bespoke creations that often transcend mere convention. From limited edition road & race car liveries gracing the most evocative automotive works, including for streetwear giants A Bathing Ape and Evisu, to signature colours for race teams competing across the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia, World Endurance Championship, GT World Challenge, and even Formula 1, both Remus’ & the studio’s works have blazed the avenues of speed from streets to race circuits worldwide.

Their expertise now reaches far beyond even the asphalt however, as they have also designed and wrapped striking liveries for private planes & luxury yachts — extending their creative canvas to the skies and seas. Often traversing the globe to deliver their signature touch, Remus and his studio have established a prestigiously esteemed clientele including Formula 1 drivers, royalty & movie stars. As some of the first few names that come to mind when seeking to transform any vehicle into a true work of artistic uniqueness, that has now partnered with Leica for a limited edition unlike any other, it is certainly hoped that this will pave the way for further storied partnerships between the acclaimed German manufacturer and other creatives who make up Asia’s richly artistic cultural tapestry.
