Honestly, most people — avid collectors, that is — would agree that any Louis Vuitton x Takashi Murakami collaboration piece is a highly covetable must-have. It’s a perfect blend of elegance and whimsy. A collector’s dream, if you will.

Now, for the seventh edition of the Artycapucines Collection, aptly named Artycapucines VII, Louis Vuitton has once again partnered up with the brilliant Japanese artist, Takashi Murakami, to give the iconic Capucines bag a stunning (and cheeky) new look.

And of course, a collection this spectacular deserves a reveal that’s just as fun and whimsical as the pieces themselves.

The Grand Unveiling: An Octopus Takes Over Paris!

To celebrate this special moment at Art Basel Paris 2025, Takashi Murakami didn’t just show off some bags; he put together a unique and unforgettable installation. In fact, they truly took the word ‘unforgettable’ seriously. As unforgettable as an eight-metre-high sculpture of an octopus. This sculpture was inspired by traditional Chinese lanterns, and it took centre stage on the majestic Balcon d’Honneur at the Grand Palais! A remarkable centrepiece indeed, and one that clearly made a statement.

This massive, sprawling octopus installation was the perfect backdrop for the 11 new collaborative creations, which were cleverly nestled right within its intricate tentacles. Each of these unique pieces reflects the artist’s signature characters and motifs, from his famous Smiling Flowers to the adorable Superflat Panda. It’s the ultimate combination of the artist’s wild talent and the savoir-faire (brilliant craftsmanship) of Louis Vuitton’s master artisans. The collection includes a delightful range of bags too, from the Capubloom and Capucines East West Rainbow to the tiny, sparkling Panda Clutch.

Diving into the Artycapucine Collection’s Treasures

Let’s take a closer look at a few standouts, starting with arguably the most eye-catching piece in the collection: the Capucines Mini Tentacle.

This bag could really be described as the definition of fun. It reimagines Takashi Murakami’s iconic character, Mr. DOB, into a vibrant octopus quite literally fused onto the bag. With brightly-coloured tentacles wrapping all over the delicate leather, and even the handle playfully shaped like a tentacle, it’s a unique, statement-making piece you’ll absolutely want to secure for your closet.

Then, there’s the simply gorgeous, shimmering Capucines BB Golden Garden. This one is pure luxury, decorated with Murakami’s joyful motifs — such as the iconic Murakami Flower — but elevated a tad further with an opulent twist. It’s adorned with gold-leaf-covered leather, detailed floral marquetry, and delicate enamel-painted details. It’s a true collector’s must-have where contemporary Pop Art meets breathtaking, old-school tradition.

Finally, we must marvel at the remarkable feat of craftsmanship showcased in the Capucines Mini Mushroom. This miniature work of art is decorated with a staggering amount of over 100 hand-polished resin mushrooms scattered across a mirrored canvas. One could only imagine the sheer hard work and countless hours it took to bring this to life, because it is definitely no small number! But the painstaking effort reflects beautifully in the finished product. It realises Takashi Murakami’s vivid, trippy vision in gorgeous 3D, creating a dazzling, dreamlike forest you can even carry on your arm.

In the end, the Artycapucines VII collection is just a brilliant celebration of creativity and serious skill. With that unforgettable octopus show and eleven totally unique, playful designs, Louis Vuitton and Takashi Murakami have cemented their status as the ultimate dream team in luxury. Now the only question is: which masterpiece are you adding to your own collection?
