As the rhythmic beat of the festive drums draws near, Oversea Restaurant is preparing to welcome the Year of the Horse with a celebration that bridges half a century of culinary heritage with the excitement of a new dawn. From 5th January until 3rd March 2026, the iconic establishment invites diners to experience its festive concept: “Golden Horse Embraces a Golden Start” (金马迎喜).
With the Horse symbolising strength and forward momentum, Oversea’s 2026 lineup is designed to give diners a triumphant leap into the new year through time-honoured Cantonese flavours and luxurious new innovations.
The Ritual of Reunion: Timeless Signatures
No Lunar New Year is complete without the choreographed chaos of the Yee San toss. Starting from RM78++, Oversea offers a palette of choices ranging from the classic Smoke Salmon and Korean Snow Pear to the decadent Abalone with Black Truffle.
For the centre of the table, the Prosperity Treasure Pot (Poon Choi) remains the ultimate showstopper. At RM738++, this lavish pot is a treasure map of 16 premium ingredients, slow-simmered for hours. It is a dish that demands a crowd, representing unity and abundance in every spoonful.
Those seeking comfort will find it in the Hong Kong-Style Waxed Meat Claypot Rice. Cooked over direct heat to achieve that coveted golden crust (the “gu ba”), it offers a nostalgic smoky aroma that defines the season. For a modern twist, diners can even opt for a Foie Gras add-on to elevate the humble claypot into a gourmet masterpiece.
New Flavours for a New Era
This year, Oversea’s master chefs have introduced two standout creations to the menu:
Braised Pork Trotter (RM 138++)
A dish representing “prosperity within reach,” the trotter is slow-braised until it reaches a melt-in-the-mouth consistency.
Stir-fried Crystal Prawn with Water Chestnut (RM90++)
A lighter, vibrant option where the natural sweetness of prawns – symbolising laughter – shines alongside the crunch of fresh chestnuts.
Sweet Tidings and Gifting
The celebration extends beyond the dining table with a curated selection of confectionery. Joining the beloved Oriental Muffins and Egg Rolls this year are the Sea Salt Peanut Cookies and Pineapple Balls (RM48.80 nett). These treats blend traditional textures with a contemporary savoury-sweet balance, making them the perfect gift for visiting relatives.
A Grand Setting at Sri Petaling
For those looking to host grand corporate dinners or large family gatherings, the newly revitalised Oversea Sri Petaling outlet is ready to impress. The venue has undergone a stunning transformation, featuring premium flooring and sophisticated lighting. With a capacity for 200 guests and state-of-the-art AV facilities, it stands as a premier destination for a stylish start to the year.
For diners with specific dietary preferences, the group continues to be inclusive, offering pork-free festive menus at EMP KL and Oversea Seafood.
Plan Your Celebration
The Year of the Horse begins on 17th February 2026, but the “Golden Start” begins now. Given the popularity of the Treasure Pot and Claypot Rice, advance reservations and pre-orders are highly recommended to ensure your seat at the table of prosperity.
