For many Malaysians, the word “bazaar” evokes a specific memory: the rhythmic clinking of a teh tarik master at work, the smoky aroma of slow-cooked meats and the vibrant energy of moving from stall to stall in search of the perfect bite. This February, Hyatt Centric City Centre Kuala Lumpur is taking that nostalgic spirit and elevating it into a sophisticated, indoor dining journey titled “Centric Bazaar.”
Running from 23 February to 13 March 2026, it’s a curated “gastronomic walk” through Malaysia’s rich culinary heritage, stripped of the humid heat and replaced with the chic, contemporary comfort of the hotel’s SunRoom.
A Culinary Storytelling at the Centric Bazaar
The concept of Centric Bazaar moves away from the traditional, static buffet lines where food is often separated from its maker. Instead, the experience is helmed by Chef de Cuisine Afiq Ghani, or “Chef Mumu,” a veteran with over 15 years in the industry. His vision was to create a “living” dining room.
This human connection transforms the meal from a simple buffet into an immersive journey, where the distance between the kitchen and the table is delightfully blurred.
A Menu of Icons
The journey begins with a performance. Aiman’s live Teh Tarik station greets guests with the iconic tarik (pulling) of Malaysia’s national drink, creating a frothy, caramel-coloured welcome that sets a nostalgic tone.
As guests wander through the SunRoom, they come across a series of signature stalls, each anchored by a chef-speciality:
The Rich & Spicy: Chef Kie’s Curry Laksa is a standout, featuring a broth that has been simmered to achieve a perfect balance of creamy coconut milk and sharp, layered spices.
The Heritage Hero: Chef Cha’s Rendang pays homage to festive traditions. Slow-cooked for hours until the meat is fork-tender and the aromatics have fully infused, it is best enjoyed with traditional lemang or nasi impit.
The Exclusive Reveal: Created specifically for this inaugural bazaar, Chef Diat’s Nasi Lamb Bokhary offers a fragrant, spice-heavy rice paired with succulent roasted lamb, a dish that balances elegance with hearty, rustic flavours.
The Refreshing Finish: To cleanse the palate, Chef Zahir’s Kerabu Sotong provides a zesty, lime-forward crunch, while Chef Ain’s Ice Kacang station allows for a customised dessert experience, guided by the chef to ensure the perfect ratio of textures and sweetness.
The SunRoom Experience
One of the most striking aspects of Centric Bazaar is its commitment to intimacy. While many hotel buffets aim for volume, Hyatt Centric has capped the experience at 120 guests per evening. This ensures that the space never feels overcrowded, allowing guests to move freely, engage with the chefs and enjoy their meal at an unhurried pace.
The SunRoom itself provides a “design-forward” backdrop, an aesthetic hallmark of the Hyatt Centric brand. With its contemporary lines and floor-to-ceiling windows, it offers an exclusive sanctuary for corporate entertaining, private festive gatherings, or milestone celebrations. For those planning larger events, the option to privatise a SunRoom for groups of 50 or more provides a rare “VIP bazaar” experience in the heart of the city.
