In the ever-evolving world of luxury hospitality, few cities captivate the senses quite like Barcelona—and few leaders steer its hotel scene with the poise and purpose of Enrique Aranda. As General Manager of the newly rebranded Grand Hyatt Barcelona, Aranda brings not only a wealth of experience but a transformative leadership style rooted in empathy, innovation, and bold vision. In this exclusive interview, he shares his journey, the hotel’s unique identity, and the deeper philosophies that shape one of Europe’s most exciting luxury destinations.

To begin, can you share a bit about your career journey and what led you to your role as General Manager at Grand Hyatt Barcelona?

I’ve built my career through transformation. From leading repositionings to managing large-scale transitions, I’ve had the privilege of turning challenges into stories of success. Becoming GM of Grand Hyatt Barcelona was not just a professional milestone—it was an opportunity to build something meaningful in one of Europe’s most iconic cities, supported by a world-class team.

What was it about this property – and the city of Barcelona – that made it the right next step in your hospitality career?

Barcelona is a city of contrasts—heritage and creativity, energy and serenity. That duality mirrors the Grand Hyatt ethos. This property had everything: architecture, location, potential. But what moved me was the opportunity to shape an experience that feels bold and deeply human.

With 465 rooms, 49 suites, and an extraordinary penthouse, how do you and your team ensure personalised service at such a scale?

Personalisation begins with people. We invest in training not only for skills but for empathy. Technology helps, but what truly differentiates us is a culture where each colleague is empowered to make a difference. Every guest matters—and every interaction is a chance to show that.

Barcelona is world-renowned for culture, cuisine and architecture. How does the hotel serve as a gateway to this iconic city while also being a complete retreat in itself?

What has been one of the most memorable or rewarding guest experiences you’ve witnessed at the property?

One stands out: a guest with mobility challenges travelling for the first time in years. We created a fully personalised experience—an accessible setup, private guided tour, and a surprise dinner that included dishes from her childhood memories. Her tears of gratitude touched the entire team and reminded us why we do what we do.

What are you most proud of achieving during your time leading Grand Hyatt Barcelona?

Beyond the successful rebranding, I’m proudest of the culture we’ve built. A resilient, diverse team that embodies the Grand Hyatt values every day. That human foundation is what allows everything else—performance, guest loyalty, innovation—to flourish.

How do you motivate and lead your team to consistently deliver world-class service with warmth and authenticity?

Trust, clarity, and inspiration. I lead with visibility, open communication, and a strong sense of purpose. We recognise wins, we reflect on setbacks, and we build connections that go beyond roles. When people feel seen and empowered, excellence becomes part of the culture.

What trends are you seeing in the expectations of today’s luxury travellers, particularly in European urban destinations like Barcelona?

Luxury guests today seek authenticity and meaning. It’s less about opulence and more about impact—cultural immersion, emotional connection, and sustainability. At Grand Hyatt Barcelona, we’re responding with offerings that are soulful, exclusive, and responsible.

Finally, what philosophy or personal leadership belief guides the way you run this hotel – and what legacy would you like to leave behind at Grand Hyatt Barcelona?

I believe leadership is about care. Care for guests, colleagues, and the community. My job is to create an environment where people can be their best. If I can leave behind a culture that lives with integrity, excellence, and deep human connection, then I’ve done my job well.

In a city that pulses with creativity and charm, Enrique Aranda’s leadership at Grand Hyatt Barcelona stands as a testament to purposeful luxury and people-first hospitality. Through his transformative vision, the property has become more than a five-star address—it is a destination that honours the soul of Barcelona while delivering experiences that are both unforgettable and deeply personal.
