As Volvo’s first purely EV crossover SUV, the EC40 single motor variant is also now available for the 2026 model year. And despite featuring just one unit of Volvo’s second-generation permanent magnet electric motor driving the rear axle with 238 hp to hit 100 km/h from a standstill in 7.3 seconds, buyers will still be able to have it in the top-specification Ultra trim.

Range anxiety will largely not be a concern here: this EC40 will get its juice from a 70kWh high-voltage battery with 488 km of maximum WLTP range, while being able to charge from 10% to 80% in only 26 minutes with fast DC charging.

Outwardly, the new Sand Dune exterior colour sets it apart as a warmly metallic tone imbued with glass flakes that sparkle under sunlight, drawing artistic inspirations from Sweden’s western coastal dunes. Having debuted with the 2025 EX90, Sand Dune will be available as another EC40 colour option along with the more classic Aurora Silver, Onyx Black & Crystal White Volvo hues.

There’s a sea of sustainability inside the new EC40, with a leather-free yet still highly premium interior trimmed in Charcoal Connect suede textile and Charcoal Microtech. Cutting Edge dashboard & door accent panels give it a sharper overall aesthetic too. Volvo’s next-generation UI introduced on the EX30 makes its presence known here as well, with more intuitive controls needing fewer tap inputs to access the most commonly used functions; while the 12.3-inch driver’s display and 9-inch integrated Google central display upgrade the interactive infotainment viewing experience.

Even among Volvo’s compact SUVs, the EC40 has made a positive impression since launch with a ride height enabling confidence-inspiring visibility of the road ahead, sculpted arches framing large wheels to grant it a distinctive road presence, and a sleek roofline that plunges swoopily to integrate into those sleek taillights to form a sportingly modern overall aesthetic.

Prioritizing safety for both its occupants & road users around it, as do all Volvo cars, the EC40 will also benefit from the same Safe Space Technology suite as the flagship models, fully kitted out with advanced driver assistance systems, the most contemporary collision-avoidance technology, and a reinforced structure.

Recommended retail pricing for the single motor EC40 will start from just RM248,888, a remarkable RM40,000 more accessible than the current twin-motor EC40. As an additional incentive, Volvo Car Malaysia will even include complimentary 1st year car insurance worth RM5,600 plus a wallbox charger voucher worth RM5,000 as a limited time offer.
