When you think of LEGO, or LEGOLAND, your mind probably jumps to one thing: “It’s for kids!” And you wouldn’t be entirely wrong. After all, the wondrous world of LEGO is an absolute delight for the young ones, capturing their imaginations one colourful brick at a time.

But to say LEGO is only for children would be a massive understatement — and frankly, a bit of a tragedy. The truth is, LEGO is for absolutely everyone, no matter your age! It’s a universal language of creativity, and we decided to put that theory to the ultimate test.

Picture this: four fully-grown adults, ranging from 24 to 27, embarking on a fantastical 2-day, 1-night trip to the absolutely magical LEGOLAND. Our mission? To reconnect with our long-lost inner child, and prove, once and for all, that LEGO is a playground for all. So, how much fun can four adults really have at LEGOLAND? The answer, as we found out, is a whole lot.

To Johor We Go!

Being the seasoned Selangor-ians we were (and that’s basically Kuala Lumpur to you foreigners who may be wondering what on earth a ‘Selangor’ is), our adventure began with a grueling 4-hour drive down south to Johor. Our journey started bright and early at 8 AM, fueled by a hearty breakfast and the promise of pure, unadulterated fun. We piled into the car for what could only be described as a fun-filled road trip.

Among the four of us, three had drivers’ licenses. Of those three, however, only two could be trusted behind the wheel (we all know that one friend who has had a license for years yet rarely drives). So, with two trusted drivers taking turns and the rest of us on music and snack duty, the car ride was filled with fun talks, unique music choices, and an undeniable buzz of excitement.

And finally, just around noon, we made it! We pulled up to the LEGOLAND Hotel, a fortress of vibrant colours and LEGO-themed everything. Check-in wasn’t until 4 PM, but that wasn’t a problem for our excited selves. Why? Because the LEGOLAND Park was literally right next door. We parked the car, left our luggage with the very kind hotel staff, and practically sprinted towards the park entrance to start our most important mission: having the time of our lives!

Day 1: A Whirlwind of LEGO-Fueled Fun!

triple park tickets to LEGOLAND

For our first day of adult fun at LEGOLAND, we armed ourselves with the ultimate weapon: Triple Park tickets. For those not in the know, LEGOLAND isn’t just one park, but three distinct sections of pure joy: the Theme Park, the Water Park, and the SEA LIFE Aquarium. And with Triple Park tickets, we had full access to all three. Talk about getting your money’s worth!

We kicked off our day (or, I guess, our noon) with some good old-fashioned dry fun at the Theme Park. And let me tell you, stepping through those park gates felt like entering a world of LEGO fantasy, meticulously crafted from millions upon millions of LEGO bricks. Everywhere you looked, there were the cutest LEGO figurines, scattered like delightful surprises across the park. The Theme Park itself is a sprawling wonderland with eight different themed areas: The Beginning, LEGO Technic, LEGO City, LEGO Kingdoms, MINILAND, Imagination, Land of Adventure, and LEGO Ninjago World.

The very first area that greets you as you enter the park, perfectly named, is The Beginning. This is where you’ll find stores brimming with LEGO sets and merchandise. And, a friendly warning: these stores can be dangerous. If you’re not careful, you might just find a monumental, LEGO-sized dent in your bank account (because all the LEGO merchandise looks absolutely irresistible)! There’s even a stage in the middle where you can catch fun performances and mini-games. But for us four “adults,” time was of the essence. We live for the thrill and the adrenaline, so our first mission was clear: “Rollercoasters, here we come!”

Rollercoasters & Royal Feasts

Under the scorching Malaysian sun, we marched on, making a beeline for the next themed area: LEGO Technic. Our eyes immediately zeroed in on ‘The Great LEGO Race’, a rollercoaster ride that promises thrills for both pint-sized adventurers and full-grown ones. Of our quartet, two were, shall we say, sceptical of the ride’s intensity. But through the sheer, unyielding power of friendship (and a little bit of playful coercion), we convinced them to persevere! And boy, are we glad we did! The ups and downs, the sharp left and right turns — it was a blast for all of us!

After that adrenaline rush, our stomachs started rumbling. It was 2 PM, and our last meal had been a while back (at 7:30 AM before we even left Kuala Lumpur). Clearly, a grand meal (perhaps one fit for a king?) was in order. So, we set off for LEGO Kingdoms, on a quest for sustenance. Our search led us to The King’s Grill, and surely enough, fitting of the name and the themed area, the ambiance was perfectly Kingdom-y, straight out of the olden days. Honestly, it felt as if we’d been transported into a fantasy RPG, finding ourselves in a dimly lit, rundown guildhall with wooden walls and cobblestone floors. We feasted like royalty on a massive plate of grilled delights — steaks, sausages, fries, and some much-needed refreshing drinks to quench our thirst after all that adventuring. To top it all off, we had some deliciously cold ice cream for dessert.

A Dive into the Deep

By the time we finished our hearty lunch, it was around 3 PM. We still wanted to explore more of the Theme Park, but we also had the SEA LIFE Aquarium and the Water Park waiting. No worries, though — we knew we’d be back for more Theme Park action the next day. So, we headed out, making our way directly to the SEA LIFE Aquarium, which was conveniently located right across the Theme Park.

The aquarium offered a wonderful contrast to the park. Out in the Theme Park, the weather was sweltering, and we were sweating buckets (though still having an absolute blast). But inside the SEA LIFE Aquarium? Halls upon halls of full air-conditioning bliss! It’s the perfect escape from the heat, and of course, you get to marvel at and learn about the incredible creatures of the sea as well. For kids, it’s a fantastic opportunity to enrich their knowledge. And who says adults can’t learn more about sea life at a “big age” too? Besides, strolling through the tranquil halls, admiring intriguing fish, majestic sharks, and vibrant coral reefs is a wonderfully relaxing way to spend your time. It truly has a calming effect.

The aquarium is cleverly divided into numerous habitats or zones. Among our personal favourites were the Ocean Tunnel, the mysterious Sunken Ship Wreck, and the Rockpools (where you can even gently touch the live starfish with your own hands!). Don’t forget the Shaoling Ring, where you get to see hundreds of fish gracefully swim past. At the aquarium, you get to witness over 120 different species and more than 13,000 creatures — doesn’t the grand number sound just fascinating? And naturally, at the end, there’s a gift shop packed with fun and unique marine-themed treasures you can bring home. Honestly, you could easily lose track of time here, simply admiring all the little (and big) fishies.

But again, we were on a mission: to make the absolute most of our Triple Park tickets! So, by 3:30 PM, we were out of the aquarium doors and quickly changing into our swimwear. That’s right, it was time for yet another exciting event, and arguably the most suitable attraction for all ages: the Water Park!

The Water Park Wonderland

The Water Park at LEGOLAND offers a whole lot of fun. It’s the perfect place to cool off from the heat by splashing around in the pools, enjoying the sun while staying refreshed by the water. And, of course, the absolute best part of any water park: the water slides! We immediately launched into our exploration, on the hunt for the most thrilling slides we could find.

After a quick dip in the wave pool, we headed straight for the water slides. We trudged up the stairs to get to the slides, a tiring but immensely rewarding experience. We went on every single slide and ride available, from ones that require no tube (just your body) like the thrilling Splash Out, to tube-required rides like the family-friendly Red Rush (a big tube ride) and the exciting Splash & Swirl (either single or double tubes).

First, we got delightfully distracted by the wave pool. It was incredibly relaxing — just soaking in the water and letting the artificial waves gently sway us away. It’s perfect for families, too, with rentable cabanas and gazebos right up front. These offer a nice little space for families to relax, where the older ones can chill while the little ones play their hearts out in the water. But for us four invigorating adults, who wanted to try absolutely everything we possibly could, there was no time to lose!

Our top pick? The LEGO Slide Racers! This is a lane of six slides, where you go down on a special mat. Here, you get to race your friends, seeing who reaches the end point first (and to make it more interesting, you can make the loser buy everyone coffee. All fun and games, of course). The Water Park was truly enjoyable, save for those moments when the soles of our feet felt like they were walking through lava on the scorching ground (you know, those times you leave your sandals somewhere to go up on a slide and have to trek back barefoot). But honestly, that was just part of the authentic water park experience!

Then, after exhausting ourselves with all the stair-climbing and slide-plunging, we ended our water park fun with a more calming (or, dare I say, lazy) session. We drifted over to the ‘Build-A-Raft River’. And yes, as the name suggests, you can literally build your own raft! The entire river is littered with floating LEGO bricks, which you can collect and use to construct your own custom floating vessel. And if you’re feeling too lazy (like we were!), no worries! You can simply drift through the river on your own, with a life jacket, or on a nice floatie tube.

The lazy river truly lives up to its name; it’s made for the lazy. You can float around the entire loop without even having to swim. Just relax on your tube, use your life jacket as a floating wearable bed, and let the gentle current carry you away. It was the absolute perfect way to end our day at the LEGOLAND Park. We circled the river for a couple of rounds, sunbathing (and water-bathing, of course), letting ourselves cool off after a full day of adrenaline and excitement.

The park technically closes at 6 PM, but we finally headed out around 5 PM. It was, at long last, time to check into the glorious LEGOLAND Hotel!

The LEGOLAND Hotel: A Kingdom of Our Own

Stepping into the LEGOLAND Hotel was an adventure in itself. For all four of us, this was our very first time experiencing the sheer joy of staying there. The idea of spending the night in a hotel with themed rooms — like Pirate or Ninjago — was incredibly exciting. And for us, we stayed at the magnificent Kingdom Themed Room.

As we checked into our spacious family room, which could comfortably accommodate five people, we were completely blown away. LEGOLAND truly takes its themes and immersion to the next level. The Kingdom theme was magical, and you could tell the hotel’s designers didn’t hold back. While it’s obviously perfect for kids, we four adults, with our inner child running absolutely wild, had an incredible blast.

The room itself felt like it had been plucked right out of a LEGO castle, complete with fitting decorations like LEGO crowns, LEGO frogs, and LEGO shields. Every little detail added to the immersive, playful atmosphere. Our room had two separate sleeping areas: one with a comfy king-sized bed and the other with a bunk bed and a pull-out trundle, providing more than enough space for our group of four.

After a long and thrilling day of adventures, we finally got to rest up, take a nice, much-needed shower, and recharge our energy. We had to gear up for yet another, fun-filled day of adventure on the next day. And that night, we slept like royalty, drifting off to a dreamland of kingdoms and fantasy.

Day 2: Breakfast, Followed by More Adventure

Some people say the best part of staying at a hotel is the feeling of sleeping in a comfy bed. For others, it’s the view. But for us, it was most definitely the scrumptious hotel breakfast buffet!

The morning of our second day, we woke up bright and early (well, if you count 8:30 AM as early). After a refreshing morning shower (and please, don’t skip your morning showers), we made our way to the much-anticipated breakfast buffet.

Now, The Brick Restaurant, which is usually inside the hotel, was temporarily closed for renovations during our stay. But that wasn’t a problem, because hotel guests were simply redirected to the Market Restaurant inside the Theme Park itself. It was a short, walkable distance, but the hotel, in a stroke of genius, even provided a buggy service to comfortably transport guests. We hopped on, enjoying the open air and morning breeze, and arrived at our destination in under three minutes (or less).

The breakfast buffet spread was absolutely lovely. We helped ourselves to a wide selection of food, from local favourites like Nasi Lemak and Roti Canai to simple, kid-friendly options like cereal and bread with jam. There were flaky pastries, scrumptious sausages, crispy tater tots, and — a personal favourite — the omelette station. Basically, if you can imagine a food at a hotel breakfast buffet, it was there.

To be honest, it was nothing out of the ordinary, but that was the beauty of it. It promised a familiar, comforting taste that we already knew and loved. It’s what we sought, because sometimes, an ordinary hotel breakfast buffet is, in fact, the most perfect form of a hotel breakfast buffet. It was everything we could have wanted, and it set us up for another day of adventure.

The Final Showdown at LEGOLAND

After a hearty breakfast, we headed back to our hotel room for some much-needed final packing and a little bit of last-minute rest. Checkout was at 11 AM, so we said our goodbyes to our amazing room, left our luggage in the car, and checked out of the hotel. With our bags already packed, we knew we could get a full day at the park and then hit the road straight for Kuala Lumpur without any delays.

For our second day, we opted for just the Theme Park ticket. Spending a full day at the Theme Park means that we get to explore all the parts we didn’t get to before. We headed straight for the LEGO Kingdoms themed area (again), where we’d only gotten to eat the day before. Now, it was time for the main event: the rides — and the rollercoasters!

We started with The Dragon’s Apprentice, a rollercoaster ride designed for younger guests. It still gave us that rollercoaster thrill without being too extreme. But that was just the warm-up! Right after, we started queuing up for The Dragon right away, a serious step up in both size and speed. This ride was much more thrilling, with more adrenaline and steeper drops. It was probably the most thrilling ride in the entire park, and we’d been looking forward to it since we first started planning our LEGOLAND trip! After our dragon-slaying adventure, we hopped onto Merlin’s Challenge, a chill, mystical carousel ride powered by the powerful wizard himself. While it was definitely designed for children, we had a blast going round and round on the carousel. After all, any ride that moves is ultimately fun, especially when you’re at LEGOLAND. Tried and tested, by us!

More Food to Fuel The Journey

After all that excitement, it was 2 PM, and our stomachs were rumbling after “fighting off dragons” and “casting wizardly magic spells.” We needed a refuel, so we headed to the Land of Adventure and grabbed a late lunch at the Burger Junction. The burgers here were humongous! But you don’t just find burgers here; we also tried their hotdogs and fried chicken, all paired with a generous serving of fries. It was a simple, hearty, and fulfilling meal that gave us the energy we needed for more fun ahead.

The Land of Adventure had its own share of fun rides, too. The most thrilling was Dino Island, a log ride that ends with a big splash into the water. A word of caution: the LEGOLAND staff estimated an 80% chance of getting wet, so make sure to bring a spare change of clothes if you want to stay dry! What we particularly enjoyed was the Lost Kingdom Adventure, a ride that was also a game. We rode in a designated car, equipped with guns and a scoreboard, shooting at target points in an ancient temple to accumulate points. It was so much fun seeing our scores rise — it definitely brought out our competitive side!

Next, we headed to the Imagination themed zone to visit the Observation Tower, a cool, air-conditioned tower that slowly spins 360 degrees, giving you a chance to sit and take in all the amazing views of the park. We also strolled past LEGO NINJAGO World, checked out all the themed attractions, and even considered going to the Driving School at LEGO City (our non-licensed friend needed to get their driver’s license somehow!)

But we ended our journey at MINILAND, a whole land built out of millions upon millions of LEGO bricks, all in mini form. We got to see numerous iconic Asian landmarks, like the Petronas Twin Towers and many other Malaysian spots, all meticulously crafted from LEGOs. The newly relaunched MINILAND Singapore was there too, with the Marina Bay Sands and the Merlion built entirely out of tiny LEGO bricks. It truly made us appreciate the architecture of these LEGO creations, and the thousands of hours of work it took to complete them!

The Final Verdict

Finally, it was, unfortunately, time to leave. Of course, we stopped by the LEGO Store to grab some souvenirs before heading back to Kuala Lumpur. It was sad to go, but every trip has to come to an end, no matter how fun.

So, did a group of four adults have the time of their lives at LEGOLAND, a place presumably for families and children? Can four adults truly have fun here?

Our verdict is a resounding yes, you absolutely can! LEGO is not just for children; it’s for everyone. Fun and imagination know no age. As long as you have a lively spirit and a soul yearning for fun and adventure, anything can be fun — especially LEGOLAND.
