They say that colours often make cars, and this is certainly so with the Japan exclusive McLaren 750S JC96 recently announced to celebrate the iconic McLaren F1 GTRs that famously raced in the All-Japan Grand Touring Car Championship (JGTC), even clinching the 1996 Driver’s Championship title. Indicative of the Japanese market’s significance to McLaren’s Asian legacy as a supercar marque admired for its racetrack derived performance & uniqueness, only 61 limited edition 750S JC96s will be produced in homage to the Championship winning F1 GTR chassis #14R’s racing start number.

As the first ever exclusive special edition for Japan, the 750S JC96 is highly visually distinctive thanks to its unique bicolor paint livery, instantly referencing the colours worn by Team Goh’s F1 GTRs that blitzed the 1996 JGTC season’s racetracks with their highly individual style; combined with new 15-spoke Ultra-Lightweight wheels and F1 GTR-inspired interior elements. Both coupe & Spider variants will be available to order, marking the 750S MSO High Downforce Kit (HDK)’s debut on its convertible variant.

Jointly campaigned by McLaren and Team Goh, both F1 GTRs #13R and the title winning #14R wore that famously unmistakable ‘Tiger Stripe’ design combining signature McLaren Rocket Pink and Tarmac Grey hues, now used for the 750S JC96’s paint options as well. Furthermore, uniquely complimentary visual detailing will feature on their Front Splitters, Door Mirror Casings & Rear Wing endplates, available in a choice of Memphis Red, Titanium Silver, Graphite Grey, or Ice White to ideally match the varied paint palette which 750S JC96 customers may specify for their car’s main body colour.

As if this wasn’t already special enough however, the ultra-exclusive JC96 Tribute Livery takes those unique Tiger Stripe paint inspirations a level further with a full livery hand-painted by McLaren Special Operations (MSO) across the supercar’s entire body; a truly exceptional, privileged option to be enjoyed by just four customer cars.

Fitted to the 750S Spider for the very first time here, the 750S JC96’s MSO High Downforce Kit (HDK) originally drew inspiration from McLaren’s first ever HDK conceived for the F1 LM, before being further evolved and integrated into the 1996-spec F1 GTRs to elevate their racing performance even further. Here, its 21st century equivalent enhances the 750S JC96’s aerodynamic performance with the revised front bumper & expanded twin-element splitter, Raised Active Rear Spoiler with integrated endplates, and a Louvred Under-wing Panel combining to produce up to 10% more downforce for even better performance at speed.

Another 750S JC96 debut feature are the aforementioned ‘Delta’ Ultra-Lightweight forged alloy wheels that drew inspiration from those of the legendary later-spec F1 GTRs ‘Longtails’. These are paired with F1 Gold McLaren logo’d red brake calipers to further reference F1 GTR aesthetic and componentry cues, together with the Natural Titanium finished Central-exit Stainless Steel Sports Exhaust.

If you’re thinking that it’s all a bit much by this point, then perhaps this isn’t the McLaren for you – for the F1 GTR inspirations continue into the 750S JC96’s interior of course. Bespoke features here channeling the 1996 F1 GTR’s spirit include an exquisitely formed pedal set influenced by the F1’s mechanically artistic pedals, Drive Select switches & a dedication plaque all finished in a unique golden hue.

On the other hand, for those who want even more LARK F1 GTR goodness in their 750S JC96, there is a choice of MSO Bespoke options to satisfy their visual cravings including the MSO Interior Livery Theme Pack that applies the JC96’s signature Tiger Stripe Livery Pattern to its steering wheel’s painted 12 o’clock marker, gearshift paddles, Interior Door Applique, Extended Carbon Fibre Door Sills & Bespoke Painted Vehicle Key. Rounding things out, an optional front luggage compartment McLaren Track Record Plaque inspired by the one first applied to the F1 road car’s left storage locker celebrates Woking’s unmatched racing legacy by highlighting the marque’s most defining championship and race wins along with the 4-wheeled icons that achieved them.
