The Most Stunning Aquapod To Date
Green is a strong colour and it’s by no chance that it usually accompanies things (or certain Marvel heroes) that are outlandish, bold and wild, three factors that makes MB&F one of the most daring horological designers in the niche watch industry. When I first chanced upon the Aquapod (Its long, press-release name is ‘Horological Machine No. 7 (HM7) ‘Aquapod’), it struck me silly for a number of reasons. The fact that it was conceptualised based on its jellyfish inspiration was one of the reasons but I thought it said a lot about how MB&F have made a knack for expressing simple ideas in the most complex ways. Two versions of this Aquapod have since rolled out since its inception and this year, the simple green coating you see in the images here, have turned this iconic titanium-made timepiece into a real looker.
Its strong aquatic ties are re-accentuated with this Hulk-like green coat on its ceramic bezel. While it does look like a diver’s watch in general, I must tell you that it is not as dive-ready as a Breitling Superocean Heritage or a IWC Aquatimer. With a water resistance cap of 50m, it’s actually not as functional as its intricate design would suggest, but it is nonetheless, a looker and a keeper.
It’s good to be reminded of some of the the HM7 Aquapod’s vital stats: it measures 53.8mm wide and sits like a chunky sports watch, measureing at 21.3mm high. In similar feel, it has typical a aquatic-themed rubber strap that hooks on via a titanium buckle.
If the video somehow escaped you, to tell time on this HM7 Aquapod, one needs to pay attention to its two rotating discs. The upper disc displays the minutes whereas the lower disc details the hours and right smack in the centre is that gorgeous looking flying tourbillon that provides a stunning visual experience. All in all, the entire movement uses an exact amount of 303 components to create this aquatic symphony that clings on to a 72-hour power reserve.
Beyond that, this Titanium Green version of the HM7 Aquapod is rather similar to its earlier launched siblings. Where I though it was impossible to improve such an aesthetically pleasing design, this vibrant green theme has done wonders to the timepiece’s appeal, making this version, in my opinion, to be the best variant of the HM7 Aquapod model series to date. And at a limited run of just 50 pieces worldwide, even MB&F know how iconic this Titanium Green version will become in the future, hence its appropriately positioned price tag of an odd RM435,000 (108,000 CHF). Worth the buy? Definitely.
