The Classique 5177 and 7787 embody the collection’s timeless spirit. These watches brilliantly combine platinum and “Grand Feu” enamel. Moreover, they feature the technical expertise of two tried-and-tested automatic movements: The Manufacture calibres 777 Q and 591 DRL.
A midnight-black face, illuminated by the fiery glow of “Grand Feu” enamel, is encased in a platinum sheath, a noble metal symbolising excellence. This is a breakthrough for the Classique de Breguet collection. These watches, adorned in black and silver display the essential passage of time on reference 5177. Furthermore, reference 7787 adds a touch of celestial beauty with its moon-phase and power-reserve indicators.
Classique, platinum and “Grand Feu” enamel united for eternity
The nobility of platinum
Platinum, discovered centuries ago in the Americas, experienced a meteoric rise in Europe during the late 18th century. Following its success in the jewellery world, this “metal of kings” gradually found its way into watchmaking. Now, it crowns exceptional timepieces like the Classique 5177 and Classique 7787.
The shimmer of “Grand Feu” enamel
Similar to platinum, “Grand Feu” enamel is a hallmark of haute horology, reserved for exclusive models. Its value is eternal. Initially, it was used to protect watch dials, which were vulnerable to ageing due to light, dust and oxidation. This was especially true before watches became waterproof in the mid-20th century.
Manufacture calibres: precision and reliability
A heir to the technical expertise of its founder, A.-L. Breguet, Maison Breguet continues to equip its watches with innovative, precise and reliable movements developed in the Swiss Jura. Indeed, the Classique 5177 and 7787 are powered by a self-winding mechanical duo, visible through the sapphire crystal casebacks. This showcases the Maison’s commitment to horological excellence, a legacy that began nearly 250 years ago in Paris.
The 777 Q Calibre: The Essential
The movement vibrates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. Moreover, it consists of 237 components and features a flat balance-spring made from silicon, a material resistant to wear, corrosion and magnetism. Montres Breguet adopted silicon in 2006.
Furthermore, the rhodium-plated 18-carat gold oscillating weight is decorated with a hand-engraved “starry mosaic” motif and an exclusive design echoing the words “Breguet special edition” engrave on the weight. Finally, the movement powers a unique barrel that provides up to 55 hours of power reserve when the watch is fully wound.
The 591 DRL calibre: realism
The Movement operates at 4 Hz and comprises 221 components, delivering 38 hours of power reserve when wound by its rhodium-plated 22-carat gold rotor adorned with hand-made “barley grain” guilloché. Moreover, a pinion added to the moon-phase disc enables a more realistic display of the cycle, accurately reflecting the 29.5303498-day lunar cycle instead of the typical 29.5-day approximation. This precision translates to a mere one-day discrepancy after 348.7 years.
