The LANGE 1 from the German luxury watchmaker A. Lange & Söhne proudly celebrates its 30th anniversary – with four new and exciting limited edition models. There are 2 new models for the LANGE 1, limited to only 300 units each. The first is platinum-coloured with a black onyx dial, and the second is pink-gold with a blue dial. The other two versions are of the LITTLE LANGE 1, offered in the same colour combinations and limited to 150 units each.
Since the LANGE 1 was first launched on 24 October 1994, it has captured the attention and fascination of many with its timeless design. The off-centre dial and the outsize date, a distinctive feature of the model, are still exquisite to look at even three whole decades after its debut.
”The LANGE 1 is a timepiece that unites everything that distinguishes a refined mechanical watch: originality, timeless elegance and horological precision, down to the last detail. When it was launched thirty years ago, it broke the existing design rules and defined its very own style. This innovative force is embodied by our ambition to never stand still.
Wilhelm Schmid, A. Lange & Söhne CEO.
The golden ratio is the core of the LANGE 1’s design, giving it a timeless aesthetic appeal. The left-hand side of the dial is adorned with Roman numerals and lancet-shaped appliques, indicating the hours and minutes. On the right-hand side is the outsize date, power-reserve display and subsidiary seconds dial arranged vertically. The lengths and sizes of all these elements follow the golden ratio to keep an aesthetically pleasing, balanced look.
The colours decorating the new limited edition models exude a festive radiance, complementing the anniversary celebration they were made for. The model in 950 platinum boasts an elegant onyx dial – a first for the LANGE 1. This exquisite gemstone, rarely used in fine watchmaking, radiates a stunning jet-black shimmering surface. As for the model in 750 pink-gold, the colour is finely complemented with a striking blue dial in 925 silver. Each of the limited edition models showcases a sleek design, featuring thin bezels and pronounced lugs. The case diameter of the LANGE 1 is 38.5 millimetres and for the LITTLE LANGE 1, 36.8 millimetres.
Powering the LANGE 1 and LITTLE LANGE 1 is the L121.1 manufacture calibre. Ensuring precision and performance, this calibre operates the outsize date and beats at a frequency of 21,600 semi-oscillations per hour. Thanks to the twin mainspring barrel, the timepiece boasts a 72-hour power reserve. The sapphire-crystal caseback offers a glimpse into the heart of the timepiece, revealing the artisanally finished movement among the untreated German silver three-quarter plate and embellished with Glashütte ribbing. Eight gold chatons are secured by blued screws, adding a dash of sophistication with its finely contrasting colours.
”Thirty years ago, A. Lange & Söhne succeeded in designing a mechanical work of art with the LANGE 1 that established new benchmarks in precision watchmaking. Developed out of the passion to do things differently, it has since been a symbol of our manufacture’s self-conception to craft timepieces that combine superb functionality with aesthetic appeal.
Anthony de Haas, Director of Product Development.
A. Lange & Söhne stands by the motto to “never stand still”. Thus, all its watches created over the years highlight that motto. The brand drives itself to put out more and more exceptional timepieces, continuing to give birth to excellent ideas. The LANGE 1 TOURBILLON PERPETUAL CALENDAR is one such example, which features instantaneous switching calendar indications along with a peripheral month ring. Another example of the brand’s exceptionality is the LANGE 1 TIMEZONE, which can display two zone times synchronously.
