Mark your calendars, because something rather special is winging its way to Malaysia! On the 17th and 18th of May, 2025, the Hermès Kite Festival will be gracing the skies of Malaysia at the Sentul Pavilion Kuala Lumpur. And the best part is, entry is absolutely free!

Now, if you’ve never heard of the Hermès Kite Festival, you might be scratching your head and wondering, “What on earth is this event all about?” Well, we all know about the absolutely iconic Hermès silk scarves. You know the ones that are — less a simple piece of fabric, more a wearable masterpiece. Each one showcases Hermès’ exquisite craftsmanship, boasting detailed and intricate designs that are truly mesmerising; like a painter’s most beloved canvas brought to life.

And whilst these silken wonders are undoubtedly the perfect accessory, the cherry on top to any outfit — sometimes, they become the outfit in and of itself. So, what’s the link between these wonderful silk scarves and a kite festival, you may ask? Well, everything!
Imagine looking at the sky, that beautiful, bright blue canvas painted with the colourfully vibrant Hermès silk scarves that have been transformed into flying kites! The view is nothing short of marvellous, a whole scene of silky works of art taking flight in the serene skies. That’s what the Hermès Kite Festival is all about — turning those silk scarves into kites.

This unique event isn’t entirely new to the world, you see. The Hermès Kite Festival first took flight in Indonesia back in 2022, and since then, it has painted the skies in Korea, Dubai, and Argentina. And now, come May 2025, it’s Malaysia’s turn to witness this wondrous spectacle.
So, what sort of delights can one expect at this airborne extravaganza? What kind of programmes or activities do they offer?
Kite Workshops
Where visitors can get a hands-on experience and craft their very own kites using fabric adorned with those signature Hermès scarf motifs.

Flying School
This is where visitors can learn how to make their kites soar. The flying school will teach visitors the ropes (literally), and even provide the chance to practice flying those kites in the sky.

Kite Contest
After gaining ample knowledge and practice from the flying school, it’s time to put those flying skills to the test. The kite contest, as the name suggests, will allow visitors to race their kites in a friendly competition.
Live Performance
And what’s a festival without a fun little performance? Witness a unique musical ensemble to round off the whole kite flying experience.
