El-Iseo: Riva launches its first-ever full electric runabout.

On its 180th anniversary, the renowned Italian boatbuilder, Riva of Ferretti Group, has launched the brand’s first-ever full electric runabout prototype at the magnificent Yacht Club in Monaco. The El-Iseo is a full-electric variation of the beloved Iseo, a versatile and seductively modern-looking 27-foot runabout now powered by a Parker GVM 310 full electric engine.

The electric engine is sourced from Parker Hannifin, a leading US motion and control technology multinational, offering unprecedented performance in speed and acceleration. Whilst retaining a traditional stern drive propulsion system, the Parker GVM 310 is capable of pushing out a power output of 250 kW and 300 kW at its peak, bestowing the Riva prototype with a cruising speed of 25 knots and topping out at 40 knots.

As with electric motors in cars, the acceleration curve is significantly steeper than that of a similarly sized boat powered by an internal combustion engine. Of course, the concern is always that the runabout will run out of juice with no possibility of “refuelling” after leaving the marina. But the El-Iseo excels in terms of range as well, delivering up to ten hours navigation economy mode for maximum cruise time without compromising on its ultra-high performance.

The El-Iseo also has a 150 kWh lithium battery pack supplied by Podium Advanced Technologies (PAT), a leading innovator and specialist in batteries, automotive design and motorsport. Specially developed for this project, the batteries are configured in two independent blocks located between the engine and the stern seating.

The electric prototype embraces superb finishes, colours and detailing that are definitively Riva. And more notably, the helm station is fitted with a fully digital, touchscreen dashboard to accentuate the innovative ‘electric’ factor of the boat, all while housing an interface that mimics an archetypal analogue display of conventional yachts.

Even the three drive modes, Allegro, Andante and Adagio, named after the tempos of classical music, alludes to the tradition that has inspired all Riva boats.

El-Iseois is a glorious new chapter in the challenge that only Riva can experience every day, that of combining its legendary history with cutting-edge technology to generate beauty and style that will never go out of fashion,” commented Ferretti Group CEO Alberto Galassi.

The El-Iseo project is extremely important to us, which is why we decided to preview it here at the Monaco Yacht Club, a natural choice for Riva as it’s a place where ecological sensibility has been at work for years, with virtuous practices and concrete initiatives like the Sea Index®, the Monaco Smart & Sustainable Rendezvous and the Energy Boat Challenge. Now 180 years old, Riva is still leading the field with the credibility and visionary force that only a contemporary legend can draw on.

The Ferretti Group motor yachts have always stood out as creative geniuses celebrated for their exceptional quality, cutting-edge technology, record safety and optimum performance in the sea. With the rise of global environmental concerns, it sure is reassuring to know that the prestigious yachting scene is moving towards innovative electrical solutions all in the name of sustainability.
