The Hennessy V.S.O.P 2017 Limited Edition by John Maeda honours a special demand from the Prince Regent of England in 1818. To celebrate the mastery of crafting harmony from complexity, in this special collaboration, Hennessy has invited artist and technologist John Maeda to blend his art with two promising talents- guitarist Kaki King and designer Giorgia Lupi. Together, the three make a trinity of creativity that sees the merging of creative industries foremost luminaries, just to create a unique visual language for the Hennessy V.S.O.P 2017 limited edition.
The creative collaboration began with a visit to the Maison Hennessy in the heart of Cognac, France, where the artists were invited to fully immerse themselves in the world of Hennessy. Iconic composer and guitarist Kaki King, then composed an original song of 200 beats, expressing the harmonious blend gained through 200 years of know-how. The intricate composition was then translated into a hand-drawn visualization by designer and artist, Giorgia Lupi, using her own visual language as a tribute to the art of mastering complexity. From there, taking inspiration from the wood of Hennessy’s cognac barrels, John Maeda transposed the design onto one of his iconic vector graphic, bridging the gap between art and heritage.
Together these three masterminds brought to life the colourful creation on the exterior of the V.S.O.P Privilege bottle and gift box with seamless perfection, showcasing both the future of contemporary creativity and Hennessy’s 200-years-old heritage.
When it comes to its tasting notes, the V.S.O.P Privilège is typically characterized by its well-loved aromas, balance and long-lasting finish. On the nose, the first perceived fragrances are soft spices such as vanilla, clove and cinnamon. Then delicate toasted notes follow, arising from the maturation in oak barrels. On the palate, the natural balance of strength and smoothness creates a harmonious blend in which maturity combines with vigor. The structure is softened by a suggestion of fresh grape character.
