A Whiff of Seduction

It is dark through the front door, and there to greet our sights first is a beautifully dressed woman perched seductively on a swing. She doesn’t smile, nor does she stare. Her look pierces inquisitively at us to find out the nature of our business at Suzie Wong

There’s an old trolley stall lurched in front of an old-fashioned, dungeon-like door somewhere in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. Once you walk through it, nothing can stop your senses from being seduced by the f lirtatious aura of Suzie Wong. This speakeasy bar cum club is an amazing horn that awakens all of your senses under its shady roof. The details that  surround you are mesmerizing to a point where you know at that very moment, nothing will remain the same in your mind from there on.

Once we walked through Robert’s medieval-themed bar, we arrived through the arch into the bewitching and stunning halls of the Suzie Wong club room. The focal point is a well-crafted moon bar that gives the space the right amount of opulence, while the rest of the room bedazzles and seduces your every being to wind down and just relax. It takes very short time to figure out how exclusive Suzie Wong is and that’s when we realized, we were among the privileged few to  be hosted at this charming and enchanting establishment.

On the day, we sampled four of the house specials, from a list of 40, 38 of which, are all unique to Suzie Wong.

The Erik

Vodka, Cili Padi, Kaffir Lime Leaves and Passion Fruit
The Erik is named after the lead Bar Manager, and it reflects his mixed Asian heritage. This pour refreshes the tongue with its fruity undertone and then jolts the soul back with a strong spice after taste.

Suzie Wong

Rum, Gingerbread Syrup, Coconut Water and Citrus
Cute on sight and refreshing on the taste buds, the citrus brings out a different note from the rum that is blended well with the gingerbread syrup. Suzie is not entirely lethal but expect to lust for her all the more as the night unfolds.

Robert Lomax

Bai Bian Niulanshan, Gin, Pei Pa, Fernet Branca, Campari Smoked with Secret Oak
Arguably the best cocktail of the night in terms of presentation, this gin-based cocktail is as strong as its name suggests and shouldn’t be shunned upon thereafter. The Fernet Branca hints will caress and tease as the dash of campari goes to sensual work together with the pei pa.

Smoked Pineapple

Vodka, Cinnamon, Smoked Pineapple with Brown Sugar
The cheeky play between the vodka and cinnamon is fast to arouse refreshing tastes from the smoked pineapple coated in brown sugar. This is the cocktail that silently becomes your night’s best friend.
