BMW didn’t stop with just the new M2 CS at 2025’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. Right there in the renowned company of other historic vehicles gathered on Lake Como’s captivating Italian shores, the Bavarian carmaker presented an impressive new concept which will reach production in an exclusively limited series of fewer than 100 cars worldwide.

It is probably no secret that many of BMW’s current cars are rather challenging to look at or visually appreciate, with poorly balanced proportions, fiercely aggressive visual elements, and grossly over exaggerated forms. Considered alongside those, the Concept Speedtop is a truly captivating reminder of what a properly penned BMW should look like, reimagining the sporty Touring lineage by blending classic shooting brake elegance with uniquely inspired proportions.

Adrian van Hooydonk, Head of BMW Group Design, said, “A true BMW exudes dynamism and elegance even when it’s standing still. And that’s also the case with our new concept car. The BMW Concept Speedtop is characterised first of all by its profile. It is very unique in the automotive industry. In this way, we have created an exclamation mark for our entire lineup of vehicles, especially for the Touring models.”

Building on the BMW Skytop’s mesmerizingly eye-catching form language, the Concept Speedtop carries with it a truly unmistakable presence with a pronounced front end V-shape, shark-nosed forward profile, compact headlights and illuminated kidney grilles. Its central bonnet spline flows uninterrupted over the roof and into its rear spoiler, giving the car’s dynamic Touring profile a sense of tension and speed even when stationary. This athletic design is accentuated by the roof colour gradation shifting from “Floating Sunstone Maroon” to “Floating Sundown Silver”, as well as the car’s broadly muscular shoulders. Those then flow neatly around into voluptuous rear haunches, topped off with the dynamic fastback tail accented with incredibly slim LED tail lights that partially recall those of the iconic Z8 Roadster. A bespoke set of 2-tone, 14-spoke wheels enhances the Concept Speedtop’s elegance and athletically planted look, having been designed specifically with it in mind. One’s shoes are just as important as one’s suit, as the saying goes.

Inside, the generously proportioned & exquisitely finished interior inspires both owner and passenger to take on even longer distance spirited touring drives. Intended to forge an aesthetic connection with the exterior, the cabin was conceptualized with true manufactory level craftsmanship and a tight focus on every intimate detail in mind. A brown “Sundown Maroon” leather carries the warm “Floating Sunstone Maroon” exterior tone inside, while harmonizing with the seats’ lighter “Moonstone White” leather. This bicolor concept identifies the interior’s visually dynamic & functional areas respectively.

A light beam in the two-tone leather headliner visually mirrors the striking central exterior spline, while providing indirect atmospheric illumination. Another light beam warmly illuminates the leather trimmed trunk, which is further refined with brogue perforations and horizontally split into two sections. The lower compartment enables carriage of larger luggage items intended for multi-day journeys. BMW Group’s Dingolfing Manufactory workshop was expertly responsible for this elaborate craftsmanship throughout the Concept Speedtop.

Further enhancing the Concept Speedtop’s virtuous touring inspirations, BMW has collaborated with the traditional Italian manufacturer Schedoni renowned for hand producing exclusive, high-quality leather goods and top-end automotive interior trim elements. This has resulted in a bespoke luggage set comprising two made-to-measure Schedoni bags, designed especially to compliment the car’s visual specification and fit into storage areas behind the seats, secured with leather straps. A matching weekend bag can also take pride of place in the trunk stowage area.

BMW will offer a strictly limited production run of Concept Speedtops to esteemed collectors and connoisseurs. It will be powered by the company’s most powerful V8 engine presently on offer, ensuring that its performance will be more than up to par with its stunning looks.

Bernd Körber, Senior Vice President BMW Brand and Product Management said, “Last year, the presentation of the BMW Concept Skytop at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este on Lake Como generated great enthusiasm among connoisseurs and automotive enthusiasts. This led to a strictly limited production run of 50 units. Thanks to this positive response, this year we have decided to also offer the BMW Concept Speedtop in a limited production series of 70 units. This extraordinary vehicle is now available for order. We are pleased to be able to offer collectors and enthusiasts another exclusive model.”

Truly, this is just how good a properly designed BMW can look. The hope remains that its visual excellence and classically proven design principles will soon benefit Bavaria’s more attainable production vehicles as well. More like these please, BMW.
