After a hiatus of more than a quarter century, Mercedes-AMG will race again at La Sarthe this year. The Three-Pointed Star marque will strive for victory in the 2025 24 Hours of Le Mans with Customer Racing Team Iron Lynx, fielding three Mercedes-AMG LMGT3s for the renowned endurance race from the 11th to 15th of June. In celebration of this significant comeback in their motorsport heritage, the three LMGT3s will wear a specially conceived silver livery paying homage to that of the iconic 1989 Sauber-Mercedes C9 Silver Arrows, which scored a legendary one-two victory in that year’s Le Mans race with the #63 and #61 start numbers. One of the victorious number 63’s drivers was none other than esteemed F1 Grand Prix winner Jochen Mass, who recently passed on to that great racetrack in the sky.

Mercedes-AMG Motorsport Head Christoph Sagemüller said, “For Mercedes-AMG, the start of the 24 Hours of Le Mans is a significant moment – 26 years after the brand with the star last competed. In 1989, Mercedes-Benz celebrated a major success with a one-two victory. We are paying tribute to the legendary Sauber-Mercedes C9 and this triumph from back then in a very special way. The three Mercedes-AMG LMGT3 represent the present in Customer Racing, but with their special Silver Arrow design inspired by the past, they also pay tribute to a piece of history. I am delighted that we are able to continue this history at Le Mans.”
Currently, the LMGT3s are registered for 2025’s whole FIA World Endurance Championship season with the #60 and #61 start numbers. A suitably talented selection of drivers has been lined up to share driving duties: the #60 Mercedes-AMG LMGT3 will be driven by Italian trio Matteo Cairoli, Matteo Cressoni and Claudio Schiavoni, all of whom have extensive Le Mans experience with multiple races under their belts. Meanwhile, the #61 Mercedes-AMG LMGT3 will be driven by Australia’s Martin Berry who debuted in the FIA WEC at Spa-Francorchamps with Iron Lynx, together with Lin Hodenius who will be the youngest driver on 2025’s Le Mans grid at just 18 years of age. Mercedes-AMG’s highly seasoned Belgian Performance Driver Maxime Martin will complete their squadron.

Finally, the third #63 car earned its WEC championship entry qualification via 2024’s European Le Mans Series (ELMS), driven by the Australian father-son duo of Stephen and Brenton Grove who will be making this their first Le Mans start. Joining them will be Mercedes-AMG’s German Performance Driver Luca Stolz, who has previously raced at Le Mans in 2018.
