BMW Group Malaysia Set To Showcase Its Leadership in Electro Mobility Nationwide.
In early August 2018, BMW Group Malaysia announced its local i-initiative aptly titled – From Vision to Change – BMW Group Malaysia Presents Born Electric: The BMW i Roadshow.
This roadshow is focused on driving the future of Electro Mobility further in Malaysia, and BMW Group Malaysia will be showcasing its leadership in electro mobility nationwide at the Born Electric: The BMW i Roadshow between August 2018 till December 2018.
Gone are the days of boring and odd looking hybrids. It was as early as the 90s that BMW went into the hybrid-electric foray with a BMW 5 Series (E34) with a CVT hybrid-electric vehicle. In 2009, BMW co-developed a hybrid technology with Daimler AG, and this said hybrid technology is used in both the BMW ActiveHybrid7 and the Mercedes-Benz S400 BlueHybrid. The same motor and batteries, just coupled to different combustion engines.
It isn’t difficult to see as to why the electric trend is upon us all. 3 words as the World Economic Forum puts it – Environment, mobility and energy. Since the introduction of the BMW i sub brand in 2013, the BMW Group has celebrated immense success with its visionary mobility portfolio worldwide. The Group has also delivered over 100,000 electrified vehicles in 2017 and they are on track to increase the momentum further to 140,000 vehicles in 2018 – as of August 2018, the sales of electrified BMW and MINI vehicles totalled over 71,000, with a 40.6% increase compared to the same period of 2017.
The cogs has already been set running by BMW Group Malaysia with electro mobility vehicles comprising of 55% of the premium automaker’s deliveries in the country – driving innovation, local assembly capabilities, awareness on new and clean technology for the automotive industry as well as changing the infrastructure for premium vehicles in Malaysia.
“Visionary Mobility and the newest technologies for the automotive industry is already in Malaysia and we have already been successfully developing the technology and the capabilities to support the vehicles in tandem with the changes that are taking place globally. The Born Electric: BMW i Roadshow will demonstrate our progress with the Mobility of the Future here in Malaysia and will introduce new models to our portfolio of premium vehicles.” added Mr. Harald Hoelzl, Managing Director and CEO of BMW Group Malaysia.
