Aston Martin’s iconic wings will now proudly sit alongside the British sovereign’s royal Coat of Arms for the first time in its richly esteemed 112-year history, following the award of a Royal Warrant by Appointment to His Majesty The King. While the Warrant was officially confirmed in May 2024, Aston Martin is now able to formally apply King Charles III’s new Royal Coat of Arms to its branding, following its release by the College of Arms. Charged with the significant responsibility of creating and maintaining official registers of coats of arms and pedigrees, the College was founded in 1484 and made up of Royal Household members acting under the Crown’s authority.

Aston Martin CEO Adrian Hallmark said, “Our appointment by His Majesty represents a truly proud and historic moment for Aston Martin, reinforcing the longstanding and esteemed relationship we hold with the Royal Family. Displayed with pride across our branding, the Royal Warrant is a testament to the dedication of our employees and our unwavering commitment to the values of British design, craftsmanship, and engineering excellence. Principles that His Majesty has steadfastly championed.”

After Aston Martin received the King’s Award for Enterprise in 2024 in recognition of its innovation, this new Royal Warrant further endorses Aston Martin Lagonda’s long history with the Royal Family spanning over eight decades. It all began in 1954 when Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, took delivery of a three-litre Lagonda. This was quickly followed the next year with Queen Elizabeth II’s cousin, the Duke of Kent, acquiring the 1955 Monte Carlo rally winning DB2/4.

Yet think of Royal Aston Martins, and it is The King’s beloved DB6 Mk2 Volante that has become most iconic of the Royal Family’s long relationship to the marque’s British sports cars crafted by hand. The King has enjoyed an Aston Martin Owners Club membership from 1973, while Aston Martin itself holds a Royal Warrant as a Motor Car Manufacturer and Repairer to His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales dating from 1982, an esteemed bearing now reinforced by carrying the sovereign’s arms for the first time.

That DB6 Mk2 Volante took centre stage in more recent history at the 2011 wedding of the current Prince and Princess of Wales, with the sight of the Royal Couple setting off for their new life together down The Mall in an Aston Martin thrilling thousands of ecstatic well-wishers. Come 2020, His Majesty as Prince of Wales officially opened Aston Martin’s advanced new DBX SUV manufacturing facility in St Athan, Wales, commencing manufacture of the first production car built in-country after over half a century.

The same Aston Martin was used to provide a grand entrance for The King and Queen to the Opening Ceremony of the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. In 2024 it was also proudly displayed during an Aston Martin Owners Club gathering, during which more than 75 Aston Martins graced the royal residence at Sandringham in a most suitable celebration for this esteemed British carmaker now officially decorated by royal appointment to the monarch.
