If you’ve already watched the latest season of White Lotus, you may have found yourselves charmed by some cheeky-looking monkeys featured in the series.

Apart from the dubious characters and the stunning Thai backdrop that have undoubtedly kept the audience glued to their screens, a certain breed of furry friends were also seen wandering around in the background. It’s like they have become the series’ own mascot of sorts.

White Lotus Season 3, with its sun-drenched scenes filmed at the luxurious Four Seasons Koh Samui, has inadvertently introduced these delightful monkeys – a charming slice of Southeast Asia’s native wildlife – to a global audience. Now, if these playful creatures have stolen a little piece of your heart and you fancy seeing them for yourself, a flight to Thailand and a stay at that very hotel is certainly an option. Imagine sipping your morning coffee as a curious gaze peers down from a nearby palm – it certainly sounds wild and thrilling.

However, that’s not the only place where you can encounter these lovable, furry friends. If you choose to venture a little further east to Vietnam, you’ll find the InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort. Nestled amidst lush jungles, this resort is practically bursting with cheerful wildlife. It’s a haven dreamt up and brought to life by the wonderfully eccentric Bill Bensley, his unique interior design a feast for the eyes, a splash of colour and quirky detail.

Monkeys jumping through lush trees

Right at the heart of this resort, guests can immerse themselves in a world of monkeys. This resort is a significant sanctuary, home to one of the last remaining populations of the red-shanked douc langurs, gracefully swinging through the ancient forests of the Son Tra Peninsula. The InterContinental Danang also plays a vital role in protecting this endangered species, a mission spearheaded by naturalist Trung Quan, a former national park guide.

Here, visitors can embark on a “Wildlife Expedition,” a chance to witness firsthand the elegant movements and striking colours of these incredible monkeys. And while you’re exploring, you can also marvel at the grandeur of an 800-year-old banyan tree, its sprawling roots like the gnarled fingers of time itself.

But the magic of monkeys doesn’t stop there. Adding a touch of hands-on conservation to the fun, guests can even help build “monkey bridges.” These ingenious structures provide safe passages for the endangered langurs, allowing them to travel between the trees without the perilous descent to the predator-filled ground below. It’s a chance to contribute directly to their well-being, a truly rewarding experience.

And the cheekiness doesn’t end there. Hundreds of charming primates can be discovered all around the InterContinental Danang. Under Bill Bensley’s wonderfully original concept, the resort playfully tells the fictional tale of Charles, an adventurous ape who pops up in portraits and statues dotted throughout the property. This creature is even honoured with vibrant splashes of banana yellow on quirky furnishings that echo its playful spirit.

So, while you were likely captivated by the human drama unfolding in White Lotus Season 3, perhaps those cheeky monkeys also managed to steal a smile or two. They’re a vibrant reminder of the wild beauty that often lies just beyond the manicured edges of paradise, and a delightful reason to consider a Southeast Asian adventure of your own.
